Bit of a beat-up but:

So we got beat by the iron cheff at half time. Big woop. I flick around the channels too at 1/3 time, and the most likely target is always going to be some show you can catch up to in 2 seconds.

What this little rant forgot to mention was that channel 10 used to come 3rd/4th on saturday nights anyway (Sat nights being the ABC only victory for the week), so 10 arent losing any ground with AFL.

Of course Walls and Quarterbrain going on and on about how boring it is didnt help much. I bet they got a dressing down by 10 management.

calling it as he saw it is a little different to adding all the other negative comments which made it even harder to watch. IMO we (our team) have an obligation to provide an interesting game, but they (ten) also have an obligation to make their presentation of the game entertaining.

I agree with his comments, but I feel he didn't need to harp on them over and over. I tried to switch to the radio, but yay for ten telecasting the game on delay I couldn't get away from them without missing a half hour of play..

I can understand Walls a bit. He's special comments man who was once a player and premiership coach, so he calls it in that fashion a bit.

But Quarterbrain is basically a channel 10 spruiker, and as such should be talking up footy telecasts at every opportunity. Walls to if he knows where his bread is buttered. Totally unprofessional.

I thought Blight was terrific in the game we played against the lions. He talked us down when we did stupid things, but talked us up when we did great things. Nice and balanced, and changed with the flow of the game. Walls sets the agenda early on and drones on and on.

I've just had the Fox replay of the game on in the background for the past couple of hours (not having heard the commentary before) and couldn't believe how much Walls droned on and on and on and on.

Sure, the Swans played horribly on Saturday but I question whether he watched our last few games, ones in which the commentators made a point of saying were entertaining, closely fought games - certainly the Bombers and Dogs games anyhow.

How can one man say the same thing non-stop for two hours while barely mentioning the action going on on the ground. He makes Eddie sound like an interesting commentator!

Interesting that when channel 9 show swans game, they come 1st in the time slot. And when there is no footy on (at half time) on ten is when viewer switch over to other channels. This suggests that 10 commentators are the pits.

Ratings figures show that The Iron Chef peaked with around 50,000 more viewers than the Swans' game in a 15-minute period between 8.45pm and 9pm, which was during the half-time break in the game. Overall, the Swans game averaged 133,000 viewers, compared with SBS averaging 86,000 for the same time period.

The ratings figures for Swans games this season show that the Saturday night games on Channel 10 average 137,501, compared with 133,629 last season. The one Saturday day game averaged 95,012, significantly down on previous seasons. Sunday games on Channel Nine are averaging 121,500 and it has won the timeslot in each of the four weeks the Swans have been shown live.

I don't understand What the significance of the half time peak in the Iron chef has to do with the Swans game, when the swans game wasn't on in that time.

So, Sydney viewers channel surf at half time, does this make them unique?? Is this a major viewing crime???

I always see the Iron Chef, during breaks in the Footy, or channel surf after goals, I don't watch the ads, I've got abt 30s to check out what else is on.

Initial reports in in the media here yesterday claimed that the Iron Chef out rated the Swans game, with some specifying the time but not the significance of that time. So all the AFL knockers (including some media/journos) in Sydney started jumping up and down, having a field day about it, until it became clear that it was only during the half time break. A pathetic beat up.

Thank god for Robert Walls,
Anything that shakes the Swans out of their belligerent denial of the facts is nothing short of a miracle.
That goes for half the posters on RWO too.

If it wasn't for Walls and that other old cow of a female commentator, we would all be sitting around talking about statistics and how many wins we need to make the finals.

At least there is some semblance of reality this week here on RWO.

I wonder if the Swans marketing department will learn anything from the Swans ratings loss to Iron Chef?
Perhaps a sushi handout at our next homegame?
Perhaps an email has already been sent to Barry, encouraging him to dismember opponents on the field?
Or perhaps in response to the No-Doz controversy we could could add Iron Chef Japanese to the conditioning panel in order to prepare his 'broth of vigour'?

Exactly. The half time entertainment is attrocious and something must be done to rectify this shame to our code. Perhaps they should abolish half time altogether.

Ch 10 are petrified for this Saturday. Up against Ch 7's Saturday afternoon cooking show, there's serious worrying happening.

In the event to counteract this problem, Ch 10 will show Huey's Cooking Show filmed from the sideline at Telstra Dome at half time. This will prevent viewers listening to the drone of the Ch 10 commentators and switching to Ch 7.

We will be treated to cooking demonstrations of Huey's Chilli Footy Franks, Rosemary and lamb premiership pies and Low fat oven baked chips.

However, should Huey call in sick at the last minute, a broadcast malfunction at Telstra Dome will have Ch 10 viewers watching the WCE v Tigers game.
