Well Walls will not let up. But I don't really blame him.

I think he is right, the Swans need to start playing positive football. We do have some talent in this team. Lets see how they compete when they are given permission to attack!

It's true about having the talent which just seems wasted.

I would rather lose by 10 goals because we turned the ball over in the centre taking risks than continuing to kick less than ten goals a match, Win, lose or draw.

I maintain the following: The only time in a match when the scores are guaranteed to be level is at the start. Why not take risks early and try to build a lead, confidence and momentum? If it starts to go pear shaped there is still time to try and lockdown the opposition and hit them on the counter.

What about deciding there had to be three players inside the forward 50 at all times, at least for the first quarter, then see what the game is doing?

The weekend's game against the lowest placed side is a perfect opportunity to take some risks. I fear that we won't.

And, unfortunately, because were playing Carlton - we will more than likely win. And thus ROos will say; "The players executed the plan properly today and thats why we won. There is nothing wrong withour plan, its the execution we have been lacking. Today proves that"
And sadly, he'll believe what he says, and nothing will change. A win against the bottom side will reaffirm his great gameplan. God have mercy on us all...

This was Blight's big problem with our Brisbane game. He couldn't understand why we would flood and lock down the game from the opening bounce rather than attack and see what happened.

Yep - that's almost certainly what will happen. Then we will do something similar over the next few weeks to other teams we can do it to, such as Fremantle, Collingwood, etc. And we will be just inside the eight and Roos and people here will say, 'no need to complain, it's working, look we're inside the eight and not far behind the top 4' and then we will continue with the same horrible game plan and run into some decent teams and we will get smacked, and it will be deja vu all over again (TM: YB) !!

Watching the swans this year has been fustrating but Roos stubborn attitude is the most fustrating thing of all.

If a team,at any level or any sport,are not performing and/or are not winning,then it is the sole responsibility of the coach to look at changing tactics,gameplans and most importantly ATTITUDE.

The tactics employed by Roos are not working and he needs to change them very soon BUT as you have rightly pointed out Guzzita,the gameplan,this weekend against the team at bottom of the ladder will make us look like premiership material!

I mean its,just fantastic to see 40 players around the ball....

geez i hope we can change our ways this weekend. we are slowly becoming the laughing stock of the league this year only because we have a talented line up on paper but quite frankly are playing ****house footy. our basic skills are very poor and we dont have footy smarts at the moment

as others have said, we desperately need to kick over 100 points and play with flair and take more risks etc..... god only knows what will happen if the blues get up

Maybe Roos dogged attitude comes from his playing days, when as a defender it served him well.
But as a coach I am thinking that it leaves a little to be desired.

On a positive note, at least the under-educated Sydney footballing public are learning a lot about game plans in football, and how much a Coach can affect the team!

Roos' coaching is nothing like his playing style. He was one of the most creative and attacking CHBs to ever play the game.

I noted a few weeks ago that I think his game plan would actually work really well with a fairly talented team. However, our team sorely lacks skills and we also seem to struggle to develop those skills. Therefore I think he needs to either massively improve the skills and decision making, or change game plan, or some combination.

Good points NMW, Roos obviously has a style or plan he wants the team to play but he may need to adjust his thinking and plan to match the skill set in the team. Easier to change the game plan
than the players skill level and mindset at this stage of the season..

Getting a bit sick of Wallsy (used to really admire his commentary style).

Call me paranoid, tell me I've destroyed any sense of logic through years of systemic substance misuse, but this years level of Sydney-bashing appears to have stepped up a notch. I don't know if anyone could say that its purely attributable to the current gameplan because some of it started from before the pre-season comp. But here's my drug-addled two bits.

1. AFL (read Demetriou) looks to scrap salary cap concessions.
2. Demetriou then makes public remarks about Sydney's game plan (and he wouldn't get an argument from anyone here about that).
3. Ongoing (Victorian) media based innuendo about the state of health of AFL in NSW-generally attributable to Sydney's current gameplan. Continual innuendo also regarding the Swans in general.
4. The suggestion that Sydney's gameplan is so unappealing that people would rather watch some crap cooking show on SBS instead.

I'm not looking for the bloke on the grassy knoll here so I'll try not to get too wound up (nor should anyone else). But it looks like a pattern is emerging here.

Sydney is NOT the first team to have found themselves just outside the top eight at the halfway mark of a season (with percentage being the point of exclusion).

Sydney is NOT the first team to have had a promising start for a fresh coach with great ideas, only to experience a slump at some point.

Sydney is NOT the first team to have displayed "Ugly" football.

The Sydney v Saints game is NOT the first time that Ch 10 was outdone by SBS (X-Factor has that dubious honour). Incidentally, more evidence of Swans-bashing, that rating was calculated during the halftime period-not for the entire match. Maybe people couldn't stand listening to Wallsy's "special" comments (I know it caused me to tune into MMM, where I then had to put up with Hutchie-I finally resorted to bongs/music/internet updates).

Y'see, I didn't hear too much bagging of the Swans when we won three in a row, presumably because 4pts is 4pts wherever you get them from. And as we all know, get enough 4pts results in a season and your in the finals. Leigh Matthews reckons that THAT'S the business end you want to worry about, and I have a sneaking suspicion he knows a little bit about that.

But we lose a game and suddenly we want to secure the services of Mad Malcolm Blight, or delist half the team. Roos is having way more success than Pagan atm-but Carlton supporters and the media don't seem to be doing much baying over there. Collingwood and Essendon aint having great seasons either, but they manage a couple of wins and Sheeds and Malthouse are suddenly secure.

Sure, we're playing the ugly game. The coach is doing a great job of appearing to be unaccountable, and won't drop players who you wouldn't employ at McDonalds. We have excellent players with below average skills. We lead the competition in being the team that looks like it doesn't belong in the AFL. But NONE of us (whether on board here or in the media) could do any better. Me personally, I just don't think we're having a good run at the moment.

I think we'll have a Preliminary finals appearance this season, and nobody will want to remember (or will conveniently forget) that halfway through season '05 we weren't much more than a laughing stock.

Well, I feel like I got alot of value from my two bits.

Remember when he Chairman Dick gave-the-finger to Eddy in that interview a few years ago, only an alien would mistake a TV camera for Eddie McGuire.

Kevin Sheedy has repeatedly warned about the inflence of aliens in our game.

Not long after the 2003 season Paul Roos also stopped speaking english. All his recent pronouncements have been in "management-speak" (Grant Thomas was the first coach to exhibit these signs and look at the balls-up he's made at St.Kilda)

"Management-speak" is the language of accountants (a form of repiloid) and totally alian to the excitement that was AFL footy.

Which brings us to the purpose for this plot, they wish to discredit AFL football in an effort to boost the mass appeal of more accountant oriented sports.

These include actuarial studies, double entry bookkeeping and possible . . . . . decoupage!
