Thoughts on Malceski?

Does anyone know the type of player Malceski is? I have not seen any reserve matches since getting reserved seats (i.e. 2 years) and do not remember him at all in the preseason. How does he go in the reserves? What would be his natural position? How do you think Roos will use him? How can his input make the team more competitive?

I saw him a couple of times. Looked like a winger. Left footer and appeared to be very skillful, as left footers can do.

My main issue with him is he also appeared rather laconic, and hopefully he will realised he needs that much harder and be that much quicker in the seniors.

Certainly looked like he knew how to play football and has the ability to do so.

yeah i havent seen him either and am looking forward to seeing him tomorrow in the red and white.

hope that when he gets his chance he can make an impact and play some good footy

hmmm skillful laconic winger....David Rhys Jones revisited??? hopefully he is as hard at the ball but able to direct his agression a little better

Don't mean to be negative here, but in the U18GF that he played he was very good at kicking out on the full and missed his target quite a bit. Got the footy though.

I just hope he is not all one sided and only a winger. No one plays on the wing in the Sydney Swans. Then again when there is a stoppage on the wing we seem to have 20 wingers. Equally I hope they don't try to make him into a tagger, although he is more of the lean type which might save him.

Anyone hoping to see a player with kicking skills of an Aussie Jones or Nathan Buckley is going to be sorely disappointed. His disposal can be a bit erratic at times and when he sprays one he can really really spray it.

On the plus side, he knows his way through traffic and can find the football. He hasn't struck me as particularly laconic when I've seen him play, but in terms of build and the role he is likely to play in the team as he gets older, Dale Lewis is probably as good as recent comparison as any. I doubt he's the kind of player you would ever build a midfield around but is more likely to be one who can supplement a solid core of a midfield group with something a bit left-field and occasionally brilliant.

And while Lewis was frustrating to watch at times, at his best he was a very very good footballer. Dig out tapes of 1997 to see Lewie at his very very best.

(NB - I am not trying to suggest that Malceski will be as good as the best of Lewis - I haven't seen enough of him to start to make such a call. I just reckon that, if he becomes a regular, he is likely to play a similar type of role to that of Lewis.)

Don't know about being in the best, but he did OK, did a couple of good things, and showed he has some footy nous
