The little fella scored a goal.
It brings his total this year to 4 from 10 games, in fact 4 Goals 12 points (25%). Unfortunatley his career total's not much better
11 Goals 20 points from 32 games (35%).

He was dropped from the list after 6 games played mainly in the forward pocket. On his redrafting he showed a remarkable ability to get the pill in packs.
My question is, Why do we play him mainly on the forward line? Do we expect him to get over the yips or is he there for his defensive work?

If so then perhaps we should have tried Paul Bevan there, he is a very agressive tackler (it sounds odd but perhaps too aggresive for the backline) and he can kick straight for goal (10 goals 3 points).

On the other hand if they want a goalsneak why not give Schneider a go (this year he's seems to have spent little time up forward) he's not exactly captain deadly 41 goals 36 points but 53% a lot better than Monty.

Either way I think Monty should be part of the midfield rotation!

I agree. I'm not sure who was more surprised when he slotted that goal - him or me ;-)

I still think he can be pretty effective in the midfield. Don't need to be a great goalkicker or even kick to be a great midfielder - look at Scott West. Buchanan did a few nice things, such as the gather and deliver to Goodes in the last quarter for a goal.

How excited was he about his goal too!! Could nearly have had two as well.

I think I said this when we first were staring the Buchanan and Schneider partnership in the face. Schneider is a classic crumbing forward.

Buchanan is definitely a likely midfielder. Good around the packs, hard at it, good tackler, can escape and create opportunities. He is probably a bit too slow for what a guy as small as he is should be and he is not the best kick. I always thought of him as a poor man's Willo.

What a relief to see Monty snag a goal on the run!! I nearly kissed the ground in relief when it went through!

Hopefully it may start a good run for him!!

Monty does have pretty good skills at getting a handball through traffic to a team-mate. His footskills are the ones that let him down. Surely those skills make him more useful in an in-and-under type role in the midfield than in the forward line?

His short kicks are actually quite good - normally hit a target and he finds appropriate ones pretty well. It's his longer kicks that are a problem, and it's more his shots at goal than anything else. I reckon run him in the centre as a Mitchell/West type of player.

He set up at least one as well with a good solid pass to Adam Goodes (to get us in front again). Also unlucky with another fine snap from about 45m when Bazza failed to shepherd it through... maybe he was surprised it was so accurate?

He's given a pass off to a forward to allow a set shot anumber of times this year. It seems to be that he has an issue when it comes to aiming for the big sticks. Hopefully the accuracy from Saturday will spread.

He has to be in th team by the skin of his you know what at the moment.

I fully expected him to miss that running shot so was amazed when he slotted it.

Monty is an enigma. Rubbish one minute, amazing the next.

My biggest beef with Monty is his decision making by hand. The few times we did get bundled up from errors in the back 50, he had caused them with backward pressure handball that needed to be cleared.

Just needs to clean this part of his game up and we might have a player on our hands.

Agree, expect him to go if willo is fit, consistantly handballs to players under immense pressure & cant kick straight.

I love flair and excitement and all that, but I reckon he needs to leave the comedy to the professionals. Most of his stuff in tight is low percentage and is letting him down.

Monty is a talented player. When he is fully on song hes great. But there is always an aspect in each game where he stumbles..and hes working on that.
The players value Montys hardness on the ball and his grit and determination.
