Swans 2003 Player List - Honest Look at some players

Barry Hall - Needs to improve his leading.....far to stagnant for a full forward. Delivery to the big man has been woeful this year. The best kick in the swans side by a country mile. 60-70 goal return is what Barry should be aiming for.

Nick Davis - Looks very unfit......lack pace and is a bit arrogant at times. Still a key player for swans and needs to lift......should be kicking at least 1-2 goals a game and crumbing at the feet of Hall. Lack of a solid pre-season means it will take Davis a while to settle in. Will be a long-term player for Sydney.

Andrew Schauble - Not a Fullback at all....lacks pace and strength...should be a half back flanker at best...trade bait in my opinion (raffled with Warfe, Seymour, Frosty and Matthews).

Craig Bolton - Key player for Sydney. I know for a fact he wants to play in the guts for Sydney....is really a half back flanker because of his lack of height. Top pick for Sydney....brings with him the right attitude and the kid has a football brain.

Rowan Warfe - Goorne !!! Roos get rid of him and quickly.....My old man has got better skills that Warfe. Shouldn't even play his 100th game.........simply not good enough. We are paying this guy $200k a year for kicking the ball to the opposition, missing tackles and far to many clangers. Trade Bait (if anyone will take him!!!)

Ben Matthews - Same as Warfe (Trade Bait).......lacks skill and footy smarts. Doesn't fit into the long-term swans plans.

Nick Malceski - The kid can play.......very good late pick-up for Sydney......will be a similar player to Nicks......attacking half forward who will kick goals for Sydney.

Matthew Nicks - Goorne !!! Trade Bait.........too many chances.....Swans should have done the JohnCock trade last year for Nicks. Swans will get a player for Nicks....Id be looking at Tim Knotting or Aaron Shaddock from Brisbane.....both of them are great players and dont start always for Brisbane......both coming off contract at the end of the year.

Micky O - Needs a good year or could be trade bait (makes and enticing pakcage with Matty Nicks)

Mark Powell - Good player........needs to bulk up a lot more.....great place and overhead mark. 1st round draft pick for Sydney so needs to put his hand up now. Roo's.......play the kid and play him now !!!

Daniel Hunt - Tall option for Sydney and has shown great form when fit......playing Full Forward for Swans reserves.......I would have thought with his height should be groomed for the back half....will play senior footy this year and should be a surprise packet like Adam Scheidner.

Jude Bolton - Goorne....we need players like Voss/Hird/McCleod/Judd/Kerr/Cousins
Might as well trade him now in the hope we get a decent player or draft pick in return for him.

LRT/Josh Thewlis - Throw them into the Seniors, nothing to lose.....they are keen as mustard.....both will be key to Swans long-term goals.

    Part 2 to come soon.........
Will this be the year !!!!

Interesting and mostly fair look at the list. I've got to ask about one contradiction though. You say Malceski will be very good, in the same mould as Nicks... then in the next breath say that Nicks is gone? I'm confused.
    We hate Anthony Rocca
    We hate Shannon Grant too
    We hate scumbag Gaspar
    But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

Nicks is a good player.......just with his age......he has had his chance and not taken it. A real shame as he showed great promise.....Malceski has better skills than Nicks and will be used to play a similar role to Nicks.....Malceski is also quicker.....so out the door for Nicks and in Malceski plus hopefully a good player or draft pick for the trade.
Will this be the year !!!!

Was there a trade on table for Nicks with Johncock going our way. I would have taken that in a flash? Why did it fall through? Did anyone know?

Johncock won Adelaide best emerging talent last year. I doubt Adelaide would be that keen to trade him. There might be more to the story, it seems.

I agree with you that "tough" decisions have to be made this year for the swannies to develop into a future threat- but I also think these decisions have to be "smart" decisions.

Andrew Schauble may be a better flanker than a full back, but trade him and you leave a bigger hole than we have now with Dunks gone. LRT or Dempster or whoever may develop into the Key defenders that we hope, but at this point in time neither is ready to play on a Neitz or Lynch so Schauble has to stay.

Once again I agree that if the trade is right - Nicks or a similar player would have to be considered but Johncock? To me he is a handy flanker type- talented yes- but hardly a standout midfielder that we crave.

Other than that I think your assessment was pretty much spot on.

                Please, Please, Please!!

When is someone going to come up with something original to say about the Swans players?

It's almost as though the same person is writing the same post each week but under a different name.

I can't believe I read this same trite drivel about the same players week after week. This must be the real Groundhog Day . . . alternate posts sticking the knife into Bolton, Warfe and Nicks or complaining about recruiting Daffy, Allison, Tingay and Russell!

There must be more to being a Swans fan than this?

                  Yeah there is.

                  Sack the bootstudder as well!!

No in all seriousness, the supporters should demand change and more accountability. The truth is this looked enivitable from when Sydney traded its picks 1 and 3 for an ageing back-up ruckman in Ball.

Whilst some supporters are firing a bit of a scatter gunat all the players and some don't deserve it, if supporters don't demand this no-one will.

There are lots of guys lucky that we had so many retirements - we need a fair amount of change. If the club had made tougher decisions at the end of 99 we may very well be in a different position now.

We do actually need a fair clean-out come year end

Maybe people aren't saying anything original because the same players keep stuffing up and it's because the same players are still getting a game. This will continue until blokes like Warfe, Mathews, Schauble etc get their act together.

I'm glad people on here are writing their feelings, even if they are the same, it shows a bit of passion for the club.

It is crazy that Stevens gets dropped for Warfe. Give the boy a go and put him down back, he cannot do any worse than Warfe.

So tractor...... If we do everything you suggested. We would turnover about 1/4 of our club......... Now now...Lets get serious eh!?!?

Can anyone tell me why we traded Greg Stafford by the way. If he was still there....then Goodes and Ball would be free to roam.....

Nothing strange about turning over 1/4 of your list Collingwood is just 1 example, If the players aren't up to the grade then try, try again. I would be surprised if that wasn't the plan the first year of a new coach there is normaly alot of movement.
