Adam Schneider

Where do people who get the chance to watch Adam in the reserves view he's at in terms of his career? Clearly at the moment both Ablett and Buchanan have gone ahead of him as options for the small forward interchanging as a run with, or bona fide midfielder. You would imagine that there's not room for all three in the team because of them being a tad undersized and having similar attributes. Who thinks Schneider will regain his 2003 form or was that aberrant? On his 2005, and some of last year's performances he seems to be a bit soft at times and his disposal and ball-winning and crumbing ability have declined. Any thoughts?

Buchanan's shift (at least, we hope it's a shift) into the middle actually makes it easier for Schneides to come back into the team. There's a spot in the forward pocket for him, and the fact that we have a bona fide full forward again (given Mick's form) should make a crumbing role quite productive.

He needs to go back to what he has done well - once he gets back into form doing that, we can look at a shift to the midfield again next year.

Ablett? Are you sure you intended that comparison? I don't see any similarities physically between he and Schneider, nor do I think they are ever going to be competing for the same role in the team.

He goes very well at reserves level - works hard and looks skilful. I still think that he's struggling a bit to get over the mental aspects of his injury problems, and still has to realise that for the type of player he is, he needs to get himself supremely fit to go well at senior level.

I think he still has a lot left to offer at senior level but it will be largely down to him whether he achieves it or not.

Yes I intended to make the comparison because I see both Ablett and Schneider as potentially run with and bona fide midfielders, though the former as a height advantage. Schneider is more suited to the crumbing role but I still maintain that to have all of Ablett, Schneider and Buchanan in the one team is having one nuggety, smaller type too many. All of these players are prone to skill errors and it's hard to imagine having two of them in the midfield + for example Schneider up forward. I would prefer to blood someone of the more modern prototype like Dempster as an additional run with role - someone who can roost the ball and who has poise.

Ablett is one of the bigger, if not the biggest, midfielders we have - taller flanker types aside. He is the same height as Kirk, though much more solidly built. McVeigh is the same height as both but still slight. He is taller than Mathews and Bolton, who I think of as our mid-sized midfielders. And he is considerably taller than our true mosquito fleet of Willo, Maxfield, Crouch and the next generation in Willo jnr and Schmidt. He is only 1cm shorter than Leapin' Leo - our primary KPP defender!

IMO Ablett is the closest thing we have on our list to a bulldozing centreman.

i have been very disappointed with Sneider as he seems to have lost his timing when he is in the 'big' team.However, i thought he was very impressive in the reserves this week and can't really be too far away from a big game in the firsts, should a position be available.

How'bout Moore? If his pace is anything explosive, certainly I dont think anyone could stop him. The way he ripped the ball and then fenced off from Wilson (Port) is very imposing for someone so young.

Is Buchanan kicking goals now simply because pressure is now off him. Playing in midfield means he is becoming much more relax and comfortable with kicking for goals. IIRC he did kick five in the TAC cup grand final some years back. I do remember a particular instance where he simply picked the ball around 50m arc, and snapped it truly. There was no back spinning or any any weighted trajectory whatever I could notice. So certainly his goal kicking skills are there.

Schneider in the one's on a long term basis? No.

We don't have forward pocket crumbers and he does not have the body strength or stamina for the midfield. Too soft and does not work hard enough.

Did someone say as a run with player? Surely you jest. You need to be accountable for that, have some stamina and be prepared to do the hard stuff.

You may well have a point there, he's been kicking better for goal since he's left the forward pocket.
In any case I think he did extremely well this week (although 2 goofs resulted in goals to Freo). I think it'd be great to see him beginning games on the bench and being the first player to move into the midfield when the our onballers start rotating onto the bench.
I hope Jude's return won't see him return to the forward pocket.

Try watching with both eyes.

While he seems to thrive in the Ressies, he has not done much of note in the seniors this year.

While that's true, I think he's been spending more time on the bench and in the midfield this year than he has as a permanent goalsneak.
It would be interesting to see whether (like Monty) playing him in his best position didn't bring some improvement.
