    Forward Rotations

    McVeigh and Matthews and Monty.

We had these guys in the forward line (Macca was fantastic) at various times on Sunday. All of them performed really well (uncharacteristically well in some instances).

Does anyone have any theories about whether this was a ploy for the Freo game only?

Did it look like it could work on a full-time basis from here on?

Or am I just reading too much into it because it's been done every week and I am a blind mongo who didn't drink on the weekend, therefore would never have noticed?

I just thought there was a deliberate ploy there and it upset Freo particularly in the first quarter where Macca kicked 2 and assisted for another. Ben and Monty were so dangerous.

I thought Roosy coached really well and only inaccuracy prevented a 12 goal+ victory.

On the Mathews issue - IMHO he has been played in a position he has been better suited to the last few weeks - one that keeps him out of the centre square. He has never been a player you rely on for clearances and simply reacts when in there. The last 2 weeks however he has drifted between HB and HF, more in the style of role he played in 2003, which was, IMHO his best season, and shut me up about his value to the team (I was a big Mathews critic).

I just hope the coaching staff keep him out of the square going forward and continue to play him in the role of the last 2 weeks.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I was very suprised with Mathews game, probably his best of the year, certainly his mistakes aren't accentuated as much in the forward line.

Mathews was tagging Bell who has a habit of dropping back around the defensive 50 metre line, hence Mathews found himself with scoring opportunities.

Roos was probably happy that this was happening rather than it being a specific Mathews move.

His mistakes would be even less accentuated in the ressies. But at least he can kick straight at goals I guess....
