Haha - I think drawing the conclusion that all of Mathews' critics are dickheads is not reasonable and is rather outrageous!

But surely that's your conclusion, not mine?

I merely identified some options . . . it's you that made the choice.

And you didn't try to nominate your vote with the words "highly respected" and with a mention of their years in the role...

          ENOUGH!!!
Please ,this generally emotional and vindictive attack has been nothing but demeaning to all concerned .Stop the lunatic attacks on the current captain.Seems some on this forum know better than the coach, match committee, players and outside observers.
That's fine and everyone is entitled to an opinion but please ,have an open mind and support our players.

How about you just relax and take a chill pill. People are allowed to have a view on a a player and his abilities and contributions. I haven't seen that any of the recent dozen posts can be describe as "lunatic attacks" or "emotional and vindcitive". As you say yourself, "everyone is entitled to an opinion" so please let people have them. Also remember you were the one who started the thread and asked for opinions, so don't now try to stop people expressing them.

I'm not sure that's it's possible for a crap player to reach those milestones.

In fact I'd go so far as to say that the only conclusion that can possibly be drawn is that one of the following groups is made up of complete tools:

              a) two highly respected AFL coaches and 6 years of Swans' match committees; . . . or . . . .

              b) Mathews' critics.

I'm pretty sure I know which group has the more credibility.
I'd never say anyone is a tool for having an opinion, but it does seem odd that there is such incongruity between what some of the fans think of Matthews and what the club personnel think. Perhaps the conclusion to be drawn is that there is a lot of good that Ben does that we don't get to see.

The club also thought it was a good idea to recruit Spriggs (amongst others) and to not play Goodes in the ruck and various other things. Just because a club decides to do something doesn't make it right - otherwise every team would be doing exceptionally well!

True, but there's a difference between the decisions the club makes and the way the club evaluates those decisions. Choosing to recruit Spriggs and choosing not to play Goodes in the ruck is a little different to choosing to honour Matthews with B&F accolades. I'm not saying that the club is necessarily right with everything it chooses to do. I'm just commenting on the fact that there seems to be a marked difference between the way Matthews is perceived by some of the fans and the way he appears to be perceived by the club. The fact that he's been routinely named by club personnel as one of our best and most consistent performers as well as given captaincy duties suggests that the club as a whole thinks pretty highly of him. Surely that sort of respect has to be founded on something?

Benny, as it happens has a middle name.....'Underbed', our family name.Benny's sister Margo was the town tattooist and everybody in the town has the same tattoo...'we luvs ya Bennie' on our arses. So now youse all know why i don't like ya picking on my rellie,ok?Now, if youse ask me why Bennie ain't got no neck, well that's another story.
