    Where Matthew Nicks Stands?

Whats your thoughts on Matthew Nicks & his position in the sydney team? he has been cut a few times this year & hasnt been in great form, in my opinion a move in the forward line for Nicks would be great but we have alot of young players coming through so this may be the last year for nicks.

At this stage, you'd think it's curtains. But then, using that logic, it's curtains for Schaubes as well, and that situation just defies logic.

Schauble must be carrying some sort of injury, or is being nursed through the season. If a fit Schauble is not in our best 22 then you can paint me black and call me Nob Nob.

With a very small injury list it is hard to find a spot in the 22 for Nicks. A slightly different situation to Schauble, who I would expect most people beleive he is in the top 22, but for some reason he is not getting a go at the moment.

Nicks might be a victim of the horses for courses approach. I'd imagine there would be a spot in (say) a back pocket foir someone who could (to quote a journo) 'squeeze the life out of little Philip Matera' last year, and he does a good kick in. And he can go forward. Probably still in our best 22, but for how much longer?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Nicks is gone. When I saw him line up against Carlton, I nearly threw a shoe at the TV. Sadly it was mum's TV (she's an addict) and I was wearing block healed Williams boots so never eventuated.

More to the point, Nicksy is more a man about town than a top class player.

He's been a great servant of the club but unless Phil Matera can follow the Swans on the road every week, there is no logical match up for him.

His body, skills and mind have all caved in these past few years so no I can't see him making a positive difference to our first 22.

To me, when Nicksy plays, it's like he's the player we're harbouring in 2005, like we did with say those tragics Bomford etc of years gone by.

It's definately time to put youth ahead of Nicks now. Good servant but football has definately passed on now. He's the Rowan Warfe of 05...or is it Spriggs?

Bit unfair. Nicks can kick and tackle, unlike Rowan (I did not mind him though).
                    A softie for Matthew Nicks

Nicks is a veteran. We need him in the team for consistancy and as a backup. He is not consistant. So he is a backup.

If he is going to be a inconsistant a player as he has been, may as well play a younger player in his spot and I think with Bevan playing last week Roos thinks the same thing.

Yep, tend to agree. Bit sad for a bloke that was touted as a future captain at one stage but he's lost his way. His best bet is to develop into a very useful utility a la Pike (but w/o the personality issues as someone else noted last time this came up).

Will be a vet so cost us bugger all under the cap. Has ticker but lacks skills and pace now. Is strong overhead for his size.

Will be considered I would think for a one-year contract for experience and back-up.

Salary cap aside, is he worth the money though? And at the expense of a Rookie elevation?

                            Sadly, I think not.
