The other thing with Power, is that he may actually want to come to Sydney, given his northern state experience. Some players don't strike me as being ready to leave their home patch, and therefore aren't realistic options to chase.
Northern state experience? I hope this is not code for another "let's go for the blokes who'll really enjoy our mild winters and cosomopolitan lifestyle" discussion

No. I don't know where Power is from and can't be bothered going to another site to find out, but, when trade speculation starts, Sydney and Brisbane are often left out of the mix because the players in question do not want to leave victoria (for instance), or, are from there but play elsewhere already and would prefer to go home rather than to another place they are not from.

E.g. If Chris Judd were to leave West Coast, it is highly unlikely that he would go to a SA club, or go to Sydney or Brisbane.

When Dal Santo's contract had not been renewed, Sydney were not mentioned as a possible destination, even though we would have had the money to throw at him.

Ottens ended up staying in Victoria, it may well have been because he thought Geelong were a better premiership chance than the Swans, but maybe there was an element of wanting to stay closer to home.

Power is a Victorian boy originally.

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I'm not really sure who is on the market. But, for example, I would prefer say Tim Notting and Joel Corey rather than Power. The difference in salaries would not be huge. Whether trading for players like that is feasible or not I don't know, but it's all speculation anyway.

Power is from Melbourne and his brother plays with the doggies.
It would be good to get Mark McVeigh up here as it is his home state and Essendon aren't doing too much so far this year.

Except that Mark McVeigh would add to our midfield about as much as Spriggs is now.

Isnt McVeigh a defender - half back?

No consideration should be given to trading Goodes.

Doyle must go with the other walking wounded.

My Adelaide scout tells me that Scooter McGlone is playing well for South Adelaide - maybe Sydney should think about giving him another go.

BTW, I hate trade talk in June.

Mainly, but he did play forward against us, IIRC.

Meh, I think, like others have said, with Ball ready to retire he may get another chance.

Maybe he is just a good non senior player, like has been suggested.

If McGlone is as good as Gerrard Bennett or Simon Arnott were, then he can stay in the SANFL. Many a swans player has dominated at reserves level only to be a dud in the seniors, and they've gone on to prosper in the SANFL. I wouldnt read too much into his form. There was ample opportunity to give him a game in the seniors last year, I trust there was a good enough reason not to award him that opportunity.

                            my humble ramblings.
promote 6 rookies, not hayes or garruba, another yr on rookie list won't hurt them.the rest are worthy of a senior spot.
                            the permanently injured must go..james,fixter,doyle.
                            the never gonna make its...powell,sundquist,spriggs,fosdike.
                            the over the hill gang...maxfield,nicks,schauble.
i think ball will go 1 more yr and worth keeping.
have great hopes for the future of willoughby, schmidt, potter ,moore etc.
personally don't care wether the non requireds are retired, delisted or traded,so long as we open up the list for more improvement.

                              My afternoon speculation:

Ball and Doyle will get another year due to Erikson and Shaw not being ready until (probably) 2007.

Fosdike, Spriggs and Saddo won't be going anywhere (unless traded, which I doubt) - I actually kind of wish Fosdike was not injured, it would of been interesting to see how he would of went in the seniors this season.

Nicks stays on as veteran backup.

Sunny, James and that other always injured guy will be gone.

Hopefully Willoughby gets a debut this year, otherwise, him, Schmidt, Potter and Campbell to debut next year.

This year we trade for or draft a Fullback with VIC experience (not a NSW 17 year old).
