    Ovations after poor performances

One of the things that frustrates me about the Sydney crowd is the fact that it gives an ovation to the players, even if the performance is very poor.

For example, against Adelaide we were bad - no other way to describe it. We allowed them to get so far ahead in the first half that the game was over at half time, yet many in the Brewongle stand clapped as the players walked off at half time!!! Although we made a comeback of sorts in the second half, overall we put in a poor performance.

Now I understand that we want to remain positive and support the boys, but giving them the message that this sort of inconsistent performance is acceptable and deserving of an ovation is not the way to steel them for a better performance next time in my opinion.

I feel that booing them is also inappropriate as we are all entitled to have a bad day or two, but a cold silence would be a fair response to a poor performance imo and may start to teach the players that the Sydney public is coming to terms with the real culture of AFL football - WINNING is acceptable, crap is not.

I hope that the generous applause given after losing subsides and Sydney crowds become more like Essendon, Collingwood and Adelaide crowds that expect success and hence drive their team to succeed.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

yep - can't disagree with anything here. I do not like booing the team, but I will NOT clap them off if the effort has been rubbish. Do they clap the crowd after they lose? I didn't think so.

    Disappointed silence should be enough.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....
