    is it worth saving???

i was reading in the Herald/Sun today that there are certain elements within the community (Parks Victoria) want to destroy the Old Grandstand at the Lake Oval. Having seen it whilst at the Grand prix this year, it is certainly in need of some TLC, but to destroy it. come on.... Some of my most fond memories as a young un' was standing behind the goals at the grandstand end. even though South were an average side, it was the atmosphere that engulped the supporters, and if you were to meet some one on game day, it was ?n front of the Grandstand".
Tony Morwood and Rob Pascoe are leading the charge to try and save one of the last remnants associated with our colourful past.

Go Guys, you have my support 100%.

Any one else feel the same

I agree it should be saved and I like the idea to convert the stand into the Swans Melbourne base (Melbourne office, club shop, aftermatch venue, club museum and community facility).

    100% behind this as well
    Once was, now elsewhere

Love to see some link to the oval retained in the Swans history, and what better way to do it as the Melbourne base for the Swans, now to come up with the $$$$$$$

Personally, I'd love to see it restored to it's former glory - but the truth is, I think the costs will be far too prohibitive.

          A pity

At the moment, you can't even stand on it for fear that it will cause a collapse.

Whether it is worth saving depends entirely on the cost. $1m? Yes. Any more than that? Probably not.

I'll sit on the fence with this one, to be honest the grandstand means nothing to me, I went to lots of games at the Lake Oval, but I don't agree with spending million(s) to restore a grandstand.

The night of the vs Tigers game, on the news they interviewed people about the grand stand. My father had his 15mins of fame there.

I dont see why anyone would give a fig about a run down old stand ?

Hardly of earth shattering importance to anyone

Because it is the last remnant of the past, I give support. They want to move the offices into there. I don't think that should happen.

I believe Bob Skilton hurled on a bush after too many cans at an aftermatch function.

Should we move that to the botanic gardens ?

To be honest its not worth reparing. I climbed into the thing to do some discovering a few years back and you just have to touch one brick and the whole thing will crumble. I almost fell trough one of the planks on the grandstand as its all rotten.

Not worth keeping. Maybe re build a replica with offices inside.

I think the offices are a bad idea. I like the offices where they are. It's right across the road from Lake Oval anyway.
