    Throw caution to the wind

Its plainly obvious that at 3/4 time in the games against
Brisbane & Richmond we were well behind

what did Roos say to generate such great footy in the last quarters ?

Take risks ? lets have a good last quarter ? you have nothing to loose ?

Whatever it was - it worked

can the message be the same for the whole game , every game ?

    Makes you wonder doesn't it.

We Swans supporters shake our collective heads in amazement.

Bewilderment is the only way I can describe the looks on the stunned Swans supporters immediately after the siren.

Does anyone have the stats on the average life expectancy of a Swans supporter?

It was my eldest's 18 th birthday party last Sat and I promised her I wouldn't let the Swans result no matter what it was ruin her night. So for the first time in a million years I entered a Zen state during the last quarter just keeping it calm and not letting anything worry me.

I have been sick for four days since ,as the tension was unbearable and it tore me apart but I couldn't show it.

Here's a novel idea, what if Roosey actually said to them before the start of both of those games I want you to go out and take risks and run at them. Then the team went out their couldn't get their hands on the ball to do it for the first 2 and a 1/2 quarters, but finally clicked into place?

My point is, I am 99.9% certain what we got in the first 2 and 1/2 quarters is actually not how Roos wants them to play consistently and that the final 1 and 1/2 is actually how he is trying to get them to play.

Unfortunately the difference between our best & worst as a team is not that far off (hence we don't flog sides, neither do we get flogged often) so if we are not switched on as a team you get that style of play.

I thought it is simple - and it happened during the Collingwood match as well (luckily they are rubbish). Its because the Swans stop conceding free kicks.

Swans tend to give away too many kicks for goal and they seem to be a team that relies on momentum so as they make stupid errors from poor judgment, poor skills or being played out of position (Leo Barry) you will give away the frees and stop the momentum dead. I think when the Swans stop giving them away and start getting a few thats when they get a roll on. But I don't know the numbers thats my feeling from watching the games the past couple of weeks.

It is just me, or do others think tommorrows game is going to be the season defining break-out game we've been waiting for for the last 2 years ?

                I have a feeling.....Big win ahead.

I'm not so sure. It's funny I have a very uneasy feeling about this game. I'm always the optimist, I still thought we could win at 3/4 time last week. The fact that we just fell has made me doubt being able to outplay the Cats, perhaps I'm not affording Richmond enough respect or perhaps I've lost a little for the Swans.

I'm hoping for a win and will no doubt will change my mind towards game time.

I hope your gut is better than mine in this one Barry.

I'm tipping a dull boring grind where the Swans use the foul conditions to their best advantage, try and keep the ball on the ground, and continually shut down the play. Neither side will kick more than 8 goals. There will be a qtr where no goals are kicked. Enjoy, all those who venture to the SCG tonight (yes, I am a little dirty that I will not be there tonight, or able to watch on tele or even listen on the wireless)

I usually think statements like that are bollocks, but it is true that tonight's game is one of the more winnable in our run home--and there aren't many of them.

Lose tonight and we'll probably finish the week-end in ninth...
and pretty much stay there for the rest of the year.

My ladder prediction ( http://www.allthestats.com/other/ladpredict.php ) results in Richmond, the Kangaroos and Sydney all on 48 points (and all with a percentage of 98.X), and with only one of them in the final eight.

I fear that percentage may be the thing that hurts us come the end of the year. There are some quality sides sitting on the fringe of the eight such as Brisbane and St Kilda with percentages significantly higher than ours. Then there's the Roos and Richmond whose percentages are more or less equivalent to ours. Of the genuine finals contenders, only Port has a percentage much lower. Because we tend to play close, low scoring matches, I don't see our percentage varying very much for the rest of the season. If it ends up that we're locked in a tie for points with quite a few other sides at the bottom of the eight, which could easily happen given the tightness of this year's ladder, we could well miss out.

We've got a tough run over the next four weeks. As someone else said in another thread I think we need to come out of it at least 2-2, with home games being crucial.
