to redraft Monty a couple of years back. A few of us raised eyebrow at the time but he has shown how justified the decision was over the past 12 months.

He was brilliant last night. Watching on the big screen at the hotel I really got a good close look at some of his scrambling in close disposals. They were amazing. I think he could be a top midfielder. And he seems to love the club and is very grateful for them sticking by him.---------||--ANNE--||---------- -
I would not be surprised if he follows the Brett Kirk path in the future. Kirky has had a similar path to the senior list and is a similar kind of player.
On MMM (the radio telecast was all I had), they kept calling him the "rock star", and by the sounds of it he was getting a lot of the ball in the second half."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

haha. I remember when we had the draft thread live last year. Robbie and I went nuts at the re-draftng of Heath James. Ah well, i guess all gambles can't pay off but Bucky's re-draftingis some sort of justification.Comment

For sure, some times you win, some times you lost. More luck than inspiration I reckon.
So that one wasn't all luck (though maybe it calls into question why they delisted him in he first place).Comment

In the case of Monty, the staff commented that in the period after delisting but before the draft they were sifting through tape after tape of U18 players that might be available for their later picks and then went back to tapes of Buchanan and realised that they'd seen nothing in the potentials that Monty didn't surpass.

Buchanan was a good (very good) player at Port Melbourne.
He, O'Keefe, Ablett, LRT, Kennelly, Schneider and Doyle all learnt there stuff there.
Funnily enough Buchanan was a dead-eye-dick then....dunno what has happened!
Back on Monty, he is as hard as nails and great at the "inside" stuff.Comment

Though, I must add, the majority of my initial opinions about some of these boys have been swayed. The world makes sense again! And you can't find nothing at all,

Despite his horrible goalkicking accuracy, I think Monty might actually prove to be one of the successes to come out of this season, regardless of where we finish at the end of the year.
He's not the crumbing forward we thought (there's still a spot for Schneider there IMO, IF he wants it enough), but he's more than made up for this by his ability to find the ball, and his quick hands around the stoppages have been invaluable to a team that seems to create so many of them
In the second quarter on Saturday it looked like the ball wasn't coming out of the pack, until he just picked it up, cleanly as you like, and ran with it, finishing with a great pass to Barry!Comment
