CGP - The Sydney Swans made a shock announcement following tonight's booming 10-goal last quarter. The club, which has been known as the Swans since the halcyon days of the Depression, will change its name.
The Sydney Chameleons will from now be the official nickname of the club. It is not a sponsorship deal, as was originally speculated. As Chameleons' CEO Colin Seery said, they are trying to keep in touch with the character of the club.
"We just feel that its more representative of the club's performances in recent times. We manage to look so different from quarter to quarter, that we feel Chameleons is more appropriate than Swans. We're just taking it one nickname at a time," Seery said, taking coach Paul Roos' place at the post-match press conference to make the announcement.
The Chameleons will play their first game under the new name against another team that has recently changed names, the Collingwood McGuires.
