The CS was great on Saturday night. We were sitting on the second level the bay next to the Garnier area - and the swans CS were much louder than their melbourne counterparts. A few times on the radio, the local Melbourne MMM commentary noted that the crowd was lax and that "Yes that is the Sydney cheersquad you can hear in our effects mic."
My brother is a member of the CS - and one thing I noted to him, is that the CS seems to be bigger and more aggressive in Melbourne than Sydney - which seems odd to me. Apparently that is because the Melbourne Swansmembership is about 4 times greater.
Though my days as a floating Swans CS member have come and gone (sigh @ 89/90) it would be good to see the numbers increase with the Sydney based Swans cheersquad. Surely we could come up with a clever marketing angle to woo potential cheerererers.Comment

In Melbourne the enthusiasm comes naturally. In Sydney it is extremely hot and cold. Hence you have to approach people WHEN they are renewing their memberships.
I have given up beating my head against a wall trying to improve things myself. It is just all too hard, and wrecks my enjoyment of something that is supposed to be a release from the weekly grind. It only leads to myself losing the plot with stress, something a person like me can ill-afford right now.
I just rock up to games, hold the banner up, cheer my team on, lose my voice, sing the club song, pack the stuff away, then head over the Aussie Rules club.
Yeah, going to the footy in Melbourne is way way more enjoyable to be honest. People just 'get' what I'm trying to do. Why do you think I'm so addicted to all those away trips. Even if Peter does end up giving me his lovely throat problem from time to time.

I even get abused (jokingly) at work for being a Swans supporter - its great cos we're sitting in 4th on the ladder!
I'd definately consider sitting closer to the CS again next time the Swans play down here. It was awesome to get amongst the singing and laughing.Comment

interstaters, like pakeha in NZ is not a term to describe others, its a form of nationalism.
i personally find it insulting, thinking that this is AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!
arent we the same country??????
I mean seriously, over here in WA just yesterday on talk back radio, the conspiracy theories were flying thick and thin just because 4 people with Victorian links are the ones that sit on the match review panel. I mean seriously what the /beep\ does it matter where we come from? When it was pointed out that one of the reviewers was actually from SA the response was "Yeah but he played for a Victorian team." Get a life you sad imbociles!
We Victorians do not care if there are no Victorians in the GF. We don't see it as us vs them, and you know why that is? Because we have more Victorian teams in the competition and everyone else is just jealous of that fact. It's a case of "Let's get up those Victorians because they think it's the VFL." If it's doing your head in that much, don't watch AFL.
And Lescygnes, I must add that only the first paragraph is in direct reference to you, and please don't take the swearing or the context personally as being insulting. But it just goes to show how ridiculous this whole us v them mentality is. It's not the Victorians that are whinging, it's those damn interstatersAnd all I can put the whinging down to is jealousy.

Well put TF, the only whole in your rant is that most ppl don't think like you. A lot of Victorians actually still resent the fact it is AFL, and not VFL. (Tho it is becoming less).
And, having moved from Sydney to Melb 16 yrs ago, I still get sick of the anti Sydney (or whichever capital/state) crap.Comment
