Yeah great effort from the CS last week, I was sitting on level three much closer to the melbourne CS than the Swans but all I could hear in between the whinging of nearby melbourne supporters was the overwhelming support of the swans CS.

I think a lot of people underestimate the work you guys do, it really gives me a huge buzz when the swans get a run on and the chants go up. Even sitting in a sea of red and blue last week I couldn't help but join in the chants when you guys started.

As for the Sydney based supporters I haven't been up there for a year or so but it definately seems like a pretty weak effort watching on TV. Keep up the good work and I'm sure they'll jump onboard eventually.

Not too sure of the exact origins of 'Brisvegas', but I remember that Dave McCormack from the (sadly defunct) Brissie band Custard used to call his home town 'Brisvegas' at all of his shows. He often even called the band 'Custaro', so I originally thought it must have been his quirky thing...

Heading up there for unigames after the GF, and in Sports Association corro, they have called it Brisvegas. It's just something that has caught on, I suppose.

That's just my two cents worth.

I always assumed Brisvegas referred to Brisbane and the Gold Coast (where there are some lovely casinos).

The cheersquad was so big because it was a small crowd. I know when i turned up i got offered to sit with either cheersquad for the price of a level three ticket. This is because it looks better on TV when the whole bottom level is filled.

Hmm, wonder if he was related to LesCygnes in any way?

I always thought the term 'Bris Vegas' was coined by Sir Richard Branson when he set up Virgin Blue's headquarters up there.

But anyone in their right mind should know that Brisbane and Las Vegas should be put in the same sentance as each other. A night out in Brizzie is "what colour thongs are you wearing?".

And make sure you are home before midnight, because there is NO public transport. And there are BUGGER ALL TAXIS!

Next time you are at a game in Melbourne, look who are getting everyone going with their chants and cheers, the gang from Sydney (and Simon from Tassie). Luke likes to start them from down the front with Leigh. But it is the gang up the back who get everyone going. The only ones of those from Melbourne are Robbie (when his health is up to it), Cheer Cheer and Ert.

This is not supposed to be a Sydney vs Melbourne things, as we are all one club all moving in the same direction. But when the Sydney-based chanters are not in the CS (ie St Kilda final or the Wizard Cup), the chanting is often pretty minimal down there.

Still, anything is better than chanting at empty seats.

I was refering to the general sydney crowd as pointed out in one of the other posts not the cheer squad. They do a great job in both Sydney and Melbourne and I realise a lot of them travel to all the away games which should be congratulated. It's just that when watching the swans home games on TV you rarely hear the crowd make as much noise as they have in previous years. But like I said if the cheer squad keeps up the good work I'm sure the crowd will come onboard eventually.

Interesting comments mate. Not that I specifically agree with them 100%.

The SCG Nazis in their greater wisdom have decreed that I'm no longer allowed to go on my wanders in the last quarter to get the O'Reilly Stand going. These are the same people who have decided that only one person is allowed to get on the seats to lead the chants, and have threatened Benny_W with expulsion if he does it when I'm on my wanders

So unless I get a bit of help from forces above, we won't be seeing that on Sunday.

Surely, if the vast majority of the crowd dont want someone banging a drum in their ear, they should be accomodated ?

Is that not why you have a special section to play your drums and wave your flags?

Some people dont like clapping in their ears - should we have a designated No Clapping section?

                          hey people
i have never posted a msg on here but feel now is the time to get involved. ive been in the melb cheer squad since i was about 13 (im 23 now) i can honestly say that sat nite in the cheer squad was the first time in ages (well years) that i was actually excited to be sitting in the cheer squad and getting involved in the clapping and stuff. And most of the previous responses are right - its only cos of people like julian and robbie that people get start getting pumped up. so keep it up guys!
just one request - more of the "red white red and white" cheer
                          i really like that one!!
                          cheers

That is a really good idea, its hard to get the spoon and sugar to rest on the absynthe glass with all that noise going on. Can you suggest it ?
