    Monty

Well it was suggested in the paper today that he had played his best game thus far on Sat night.

I think that's the 3rd time that has or could have been written this season.

When he's had his beans, this kid goes off laying tackles that lead to goals, tap ons that lead to goals, hand passes that lead to goals and goals in general.

I thought his Dons game was fantastic and his Geelong game was very good, but last night Monty set himself a new standard.

Will feature in the B&F this year. As happy as I am with him now, a committed pre-season and another quality FULL year, he will firm as a very good player, he might just be one of the first picked every week, Brownlow Votes etc.

At the moment...He's Seriously Good! Could be a match winner!

There is no doubt he's playing well, but I think he is in the best form he could ever hope to acheieve. His disposal is still poor. Running around like a terrier is fantastic (Troy Cook has made a career out of it), but I fear it wont last for more the a season or two.

I think his disposal around the ground is generally pretty good.

      Certainly better than Cook's.

When its a shot on goal, its generally poor but he managed to get one the other night.

If your definition of disposal does not include kicking: Yes.
Better than the 2nd worst disposal midfielder in the comp (Cook): Debatable.

I saw a few of his passes find targets. I don't recall any obvious shockers, although I did miss a bit of the game.

His disposal was fine on Saturday. I wouldn't say that it's always good but it's definitely improving. Those chip kicks into the forward 50 that seem to travel about 3 metres are far less frequent.

If he can become a bit more consistent he'll be a very good player. Jude has improved his disposal a lot this year and it's made a huge difference - both to him and the team. If Amon can do the same thing it'll make us a better team.

The enthusiasm with which the entire forward line greeted his goal on Saturday night suggests that

                a) he's a pretty popular player; and
                b) his goal kicking has been the subject of some internal discussion!

Of course it might just have been because it was the absolute clincher for the match but they probably already had it won by then.

I don't think his goalkicking NEEDS any discussion!

He's kicked, what, 7.14 now? I'm sure he knows it without having to learn it from some internal discussion! . He's done so many good things of late that I'm even willing to forgive him for all the misses, as long as he keeps up the effort!

It wasn't so much the goal that got me, but the wqy he shrugged off tackles and came from nowhere to get a goal, great persistence.

it does not make sense to say he is in the best form he could EVER hope to achieve. If you compare him with J.Bolton - 3 years ago JB's disposal was probably worse than Bucho's now, though he had the same manic attack on the ball. So if Bucho keeps on improving at the same rate....

He had four clangers according to the HUN, which surprised me...it is true that about one in five of his forward 50 kicks are marked by the defender...but you will find that at least 2 in 5 are marked by Bazza and Co.

He has sent more good, marked balls into the fifty than any other player this year, I believe.

I am sure that some of you don't notice when he does it...just seeing Bazza take a great mark in front of the sticks again...but it is Monty's kick more often than some realise, I believe.

And two fantastic, crumbed Saturday special goals from stoppages at crucial times in recent weeks.

I'm not sure if he'll ever get better. It seems to me he's one of those players who will always have to work hard to perform well. I think his teammates really celebrated his last goal because they thought he deserved it as icing on the cake of a hard working game.

It's not that his direction's off, or that he's not a long kick which is true. It's that many of kicks float, leaving the intended recipient sitting their waiting to see whether the ball and his opponent will arrive first.
A pass from Malceski would be a much better prospect than one from Monty.
Incidentally I saw the little fella run underneath a tackle on the weekend (with only a slight duck of the head) so perhaps there is some advantage to being a short-arse.
