How is this not a free? Note Ferguson's left hand on Barry's arm.

    Or this one?

And whilst I haven't yet found a photo of the Sylvia free-that-wasn't, you can clearly see the evidence is damning.

I would have thought when Bazza cant lift both arms to take a mark its a blatant free. Shame he plays for Sydney and not Port or Essendon.

First one, would be incidental contact if he punched the ball first

Second one, it appears Bazza is actually holding his jumper and he is trying to release his grip

Still photos are meaningless they prove nothing

No argument about the Sylvia one tho, doubt anyone would say it did not deserve a free

No. Chopping or holding the arm comes before a punch. He took Bazza out of the contest from in front regardless of whether he then punched the ball.

Second one, it appears Bazza is actually holding his jumper and he is trying to release his grip
Maybe. But his arm is being held. Even if Ferguson was to try to argue that he was trying to remove Bazza's grip, its evident he was just plain holding his arm.

In the first one he is using barrys arm to hold himself to punch the ball.

Thats is clearly a free kick..

What ? not sure you understood, if he punched the ball away first then happened to grab Bazzas arm it would be considered incidental contact by umpie. It is a still photo so you cannot tell and it is meaningless

No its not evident, it is a still photo, if both players infringe and umpies see both infringments they usually let it go (within reason)

Actually, I think you'll find that Warren Tredrea gets about as good a run from the umps as our Barry does

Baz missed out on one blatant free that became a 12 point play. That one was annoying.

Overall, the umpiring was the best we've had this season. They didn't over officiate and it wasn't lob sided.

Agreed, thought they were fairly good on Sat night.

Also agreed - Neitz got one soft one but then so did Jolly. Other than the Hall incident in the last quarter they were pretty fair - and let's face it compared to recent weeks that was a tremendous result.
