    Is Maxfield gone?

    I noticed Stuey was coaching the reserves, which while isn't a big deal makes me wonder he is all but gone It's a bit weird how he wanted to spend time with family yet is in canberra coaching the 2s... I know it's an odd injury but there has barely been a word since he was injured, and to be honest I think there won't be much of a spot for him. I tip he won't play again, or if he does it will be a lame duck testimonial finale.
    Any thoughts?

                  I think Stu is gone. The fact is that he wasn't playing well enough to command a spot in the team before his injury, and with our midfield seeming fairly settled (barring injury) I just don't see how he could add much value at all.

                  While he's been a great servant of the club, our position on the ladder and the congestion just below us doesn't allow for sentimentality - we have to play our strongest line-up each week, and IMHO Stu isn't part of it.

                  I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

                  If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

                                  Don't agree, and my hunch is that Roosey wouldn't either.

                                  If Maxfield gets himself fit, he would add as much to the team as the current 19-22 players taking up spots. It's been great to see some cameos from youngsters but none has jumped up and demanded a spot ala Schneider in 2003 or Bevan in 2004. The future belongs to them but, come finals time, the strong, determined body of Maxfield wouldn't go amiss and I'd have him in the team over Malceski or Moore and probably McVeigh (though he has the potential still to stamp himself on this season).

                                  Will depend on him getting back into the team within the next three or four weeks - I wouldn't put him straight into the team in a finals match - but I don't think he's necessarily done his dash yet.

                                          I have a feeling you're right but Stu is on the "Indefinite' list and with just 6 to go in the H&A and 3 Finals he'd have to have a run in the ressies 1 or 2 weeks...hmmmm might be back for the Granny??

                                          Then what for 2006? Sadly, this is his final year IMHO.

                                              ROK Lobster, in taking another cheap potshot, again misses the point. Whilst I sincerely hope Stuart is able to force his way back into the side, if he can't well so be it.
                                              What I objected to was people like said Lobster taking a disrespectful cheap shot against a loyal servant if he in fact happened to again earn selection.

                                                      Agree there Liz. He is still fearsome when fit and on the charge. Still quick enough to bust out of a pack, and big enough to do some real damage when charging into a pack.

                                                      IF fit, he is still in our best 22. Certainly would take the place of a McVeigh / Moore / Malceski / Schneider.

                                                          Seriously, I also fear we have seen the last of Maxie and that it would be a great shame for his fine career to end this way.
