Who are the "run-with" and who are the "attackers"?

Clearly the Eagles have a swarm of fast paced, skilled midfielders and tagging them all would be futile and probably see us kick 7 goals for the afternoon.

There are however a few guys who need to be shut down with the balance burnt off but Kirky and Monty's quick hands and Willo and Jude's fast feet!

    Crouchy on Cuz
    Dempster on Matera
    Noggy on Judd

Interestingly Kerr (apparently starts on the bench these days) and Fletcher were down statistically last week and the wraps they were getting earlier, have now dried up. Makes for difficult match ups. Then there is Braun who is in career best form too!

Think they will use their own "run-with" fire power:

    Stenglein on Kirk
    Selwood on Williams
Fletcher on Jude (just a match up and not a tag)

These are my outrageous guesses. Anybody got any other thoughts on who might sit on who on Sunday?

No way Dempster will get Matera he would get killed

And Stenglein will most likely run with Williams IMO

    Kirk--Judd
    NoG--Cousins
Crouch--Matera (although marking is a worry)

They will struggle to match up Goodes but then so does every team in the comp

Its a strong possible, but he would also get killed overhead, Matera is a strong mark for his size (although his speed usually lets him take it on his chest).

        Toughest match up for us

Crouchy seems logical on Matera but there are some concerns:

Cuz and Judd and lightening quick and our 2 fastest might need to be here.

          Schneides on Matera (similar fitness)?
Noggy on Judd (similar height and Noggy is close in foot speed)?
Crouch on Cuz (has the speed and discipline required)?

Cousins would be too strong for Crouch. Ablett is the most suitable match up I think.

Just out of the box. How about playing Goodes on Judd?

Mmmm... it is a tough one isn't it?

              Here's my suggestions:

              Ablett -- Judd
              Matthews -- Cousins
              Stenglein -- Williams
              Buchanan -- Braun
              Jude -- Fletcher
              Kirk -- Kerr

              Kennelly/Crouch -- Matera
LRT -- Lynch (unless Hansen plays)
Barry -- McDougall (I just think he is more dangerous)

              Hall -- Glass
              OLoughlin -- ??
              Davis -- Wirrpunda
ROK -- Chick (? What if he plays forward?)

              Goodes -- Selwood/Staker

              Like I said... very tough

previously Roos has used Williams on Judd to great effect

Could be a good move again to assist willo find a bit more of the ball.

maybe bring Nicks back this game to play on Matera

remember how he thrashed him in last years final

I think Crouch can take Cousins

Let's be thankful that there's not Embley & Sampi to cover as well. They have a veritable cornucopia of midfield brilliance. Really not fair I reckon....

Nicks is injured so not an option.

Maybe Craig Bolton could take Matera? Not an ideal match-up but doesn't worry me as much as Schneider on him. Otherwise it has to be Crouch, but having Crouch available to run with Cousins would be good.

There's no way the Swans can tag them all. They need to take a leaf out of Collingwood's book and back themselves to win the hard ball in the middle and move it forward quickly.

If we try to tag them all we will lose.
We will win if we do exactly as you suggest Collingwood did - we play attacking football.

I think we should bring in Schauble to tackle Lynch, allowing Leo to play on Matera and LRT can have MacDougall. In any case, I don't think Dempster will play on Matera, he isn't agile enough.

In the midfield, Kirk will get Fletcher, Ablett will take Judd, Crouch on Cousins while the Eagles will put Selwood on Williams and Stenglein on Bolton.

Up forward, Glass on Hall is a given, Chick will get O'Loughlin again. Wirrpunda will play on Davis and will use every opportunity to push forward. Brett Jones will match up nicely on O'Keefe.

Does Glass have any form on Hall? He'd be giving some kilos away I suspect? Not that they have an option I guess.

To answer one of my own qns, Hall 194cm/98k; Glass 192/97.

If one believes the club player profiles there's not much in it which surprises me.
