    Seating at SCG

I'm coming to Australia for the first time next month and want to take in some sport. I hope to go to the game against the Kangaroos on the 21st. It will be my first Aussie Rules game (except on TV) and I'll have my wife and 2 young boys with me. I would really appreciate your advice about the best place to sit. Thanks.

You will probably get conflicting advice on which are the best seats at the SCG!

IMO, the seats in the Bill O'Reilly Stand are supurb, right in the middle of the ground with a little bit of elevation. The downside is, you are paying the premium price.

The general admission area (non reserved) at the SCG, is behind the goals, not the greatest view if you want an overall view of the ground.

Check out www.ticketek.com.au for ticket info and ground info.
Have a great trip over and all the best.
    Swannies for life!

Try to get a stand seat to get an elevated view. I think for newcomers to the game, you get a better idea of the flow of the game rather than trying to squint to make out whats happening at the other end when you have a ground level seat.

Spend at least $30AUS (adult) and the tickets should be OK. Don't leave it too late. You can pick the tickets up on the day as long as your have the credit card used to book the tickets.

Should be no problem. The SCG is a nice compact ground and the noise carries well around the ground. Add to the fact that Kangaroos and Swans will most likely be battling for a top 4 spot and are regular rivals should ensure a great atmosphere.

Any of the seats in the premium stands will cost at least $60 each (adult) though you should look at buying a family ticket (if they exist for one off games).

The Bill O'Reilly Stand on the Outer wing IS the home of atmophere in the ground. When they get going, everyone in the ground tends to follow.

I think JF was referring to those ocassions when Ryan O'Keefe is bent over in front of the stand.

I appreciate that a bit of elevation would be good for the whole ground view, but might the positional play etc. be a bit lost/a bit confusing for someone who does not have someone there to tell them the finer points? I think, if you are after the chance to experience an Australian Rules game, then maybe the concourse area, right up close to the sidelines, might be worth considering.

I agree that, first game, you should go for a bit of an overview (but don't go too high or it's not too different from TV). But at some time, wander down to the concourse for a few minutes. It's only when you are close to the action that you see how incredibly hard and fast the game is. O'Reilly you are in warm sunshine but that also means the sun is in your eyes towards the end of the game. The Noble so you can see the action on the interchange bench may be better.

Email Swans membership and ask them. They are helpful and can mail your tickets out (no cheaper but more input than Ticketek). I think that applies to home games, too.

Though if it's like the last Roos game/boredomfest at Manuka, you may want to bring a good book. "War and Peace" would do it.

The only way the Noble would be on the "outer wing" would be if the SCG Trust decided to move the goalposts to in front of the O'Reilly Stand and the Brewongle...then the Noble Stand would be on the wing.

Current formation would suggest that the Noble is right behind the sticks!

$34 dollar seats in the Doug Walters Stand (where I was today) were quite reasonable, I thought (at least by the SCG's prohibitive standards).
