Have we found the new Cressa

Since the end of 2003, we have genuinely missed the skills of Cressa in the middle of the ground.

Over the last month, I am beginning to think we may have found a replacement.

I am the first to admit that I am not a Buchanan fan (I think he's to small) but in the past month he certainly has shown a hell of a lot. He knows how to get the footy, and that was Cressa's one true attribute. Goal kicking accuracy needs some work, but hey Cressa was never a great kick for goal in the early days.

The redrafting of Monty could yet prove to be a stroke of genius. I sincerely hope so.

I agree. I always thought Monty looks like a bit lost for purpose, but over the last month he's shown he's a very very good inside onballer. Not too worried about the disposal because his first job is to get the pill out of the traffic and to our advantage, which is quite a chaotic task.

If he can improve his delivery, then all the better. Having said that, he reads the play well and makes good decisions (if not always executing well).

Not that it got much better either, but still he always seemed to stand up with a goal when needed and Monty looks like he is starting to head in that direction.

But I agree the way Amon has played the past 11 matches has been simular to the way Cressa played the game.

And can we give him the Leo Barry award for showing the least regard for his personal safety, every week? How about a sweep on RWO to pick what minute of each game Bucky will have his head ripped off?

On what basis do you make that statement? Fixter was playing up in the forward line in last Saturday's reserves game.

He has not played well for most of this season, though in the Geelong match, everything changed. It's almost as if a lightbulb went on in his head and he remembered he was an AFL player. Carved up eveyone and everything after that.

Watching the replay of the game, the commentator was full of nothing but praise for Bucky:
"The never-say-die Buchanan... with no regard for his personal safety".

Tis good to know he's hit form when things are really starting to matter.

To be fair, the big turning point was the Freo game where he was chucked in the deep end to replace Jude, who was a late withdrawal. Monty was great in that game.

Actually I would go further back to the Essendon game when he was actually dropped but came back in to replace Maxfield and picked up 20+ possessions.

I definately see the similarities. One thing Cressa always did was have consistent opportunities at goal, something which most of our midfield don't have.

Bucky has a knack of getting 1 or 2 shots at goal. Although a poor converter, it is still a huge positive for us to have a midfilder who can compliment our strong forward line and have these chances.
