    SOS for LRT

Silvagni the man for Lewis bodywork

I wish I knew how to paste these links in.

Anyway, this is from this morning's Aussie.

Personally, I think it's working. SOS has found his calling as a mentor to the young, because it ain't as a special comments man! Sorry SOS.

MOD ED: Merged the two thread for starters, and corrected the link.

PS: Hood, when you click on "http://" to insert a link,
    * first paste/type the wording you want to see in your post
    * second paste the url of the site make sure there 'http//' only appears once. Scotth

    LRT's secret of success

Silvagni the man for Lewis bodywork

"SYDNEY's greenhorn defender, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, has been taking master classes from the AFL's full-back of the century, Steve Silvagni."

And maybe Roos does read RWO?

"All players make mistakes, even Paul Williams and Michael O'Loughlin do, but sometimes even the coaches were too focused on Lewis," Roos said.

"Lewis's were probably more pronounced than others but the fact we held our ground and kept on playing him means he now he has a lot more composure on the field and he is playing reasonable footy.

"Once we decided the kid can play, we said, 'let him play, let's not focus on the negatives, let's focus on the aggression, the spoils, the ground balls, the competitiveness'.

One thing we can never doubt is LRT's endevour. I hope he has a very solid end of the season and bulk up a bit more next year so he can really take on the gorillas.

Who has been focussing on LRT's negatives???

If he becomes half the player SOS was, he'll be doing well!!

When Jonas arrived at the club, a story was told about how he couldn't believe how the rest of the coaching staff were so focussed on Goodes' mistakes, rather than extolling all the unique things he could do. I guess that, when you're very close to a situation, its very easy to lose perspective.

Thank you go swannies for posting the bit about Silvagni. Found that article very interesting and great to read SOS helped us out. Money helps I guess - but he would be a good person to learn from.

Jonas seems to be coming up with some good ideas too. He was at the After Match in the Noble stand last weekend and spoke well.

Some one on this site was a knocker of his.!!!

I'm sure there will still be posters who have to save face and deny this.

It's great that he's making progress.

Haven't seen too many on here knocking Jonas - seems Ross Lyon is the whipping boy on the coaching staff.

Even when being a little bit frustrated at times with Lewis I have never questioned that; the guy gives his heart and soul every week.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

That he is getting training from SOS is excellent news - it showed that bodywork was a definite weakness of LRT's and thus it's good to see we have recognised that we can't develop him to his full potential ourselves and we are seeking help.

So true. I like his relentlessness in his attack on the footy; although he may not often win possession he also makes sure his man does not usually win it easily either.

My view on LRT was to be patient and to have faith in the coaching staff. He's had a learning curve steeper than most and the effort is beginning to show. I expect by this time next year the majority of his games will be serviceable performances like those of the last two weeks.

I think Jonas is well regarded. As I recall, he was short listed for the Crows job last year, but I guess you'd have to say they got that appointment rite.

I look forward to LRT having a kick after the siren to win a game in the future.

I love it that SOS is the man they consulted.

Roosy was a 9 time AA backman but his no-touch, kick chasing, soft style obviously was of no use to LRT's weaknesses.

Punching when you're caught behind is one thing, but when your hip to hip with your man, you have to be able to move your man off the line. LRT needs to dig his heels in, grow his quads and use his backside for more than just getting rid of protein shakes.
