For all you sydneysiders and "interstaters" I thought I share part of this article from Melbournes Herald Sun with you. It's titled GREAT FOOTBALL SNUB about the deal struck between the AFL and MCC regarding the finals and is a great example of the narrow mindedness and arrogance of most victorian football supporters.

"The deal ends a tradition spanning most of the VFL/AFL's 108 years. Big winners are non-Victorian clubs that have pushed for the changes that rob Melburnians of finals football and MCC members of once guaranteed rights." but wait theres more: "In an unlikely worst case, there could be no MCG finals until the grand final. It is believed a clause in yesterday's deal could rob Telstra Dome of next year's Anzac Day match."

You dirty non-victorians should be ashamed of yourselves.

Wasn't there a deal between Collingwood - they were supposedly working with MCC to strike a deal. In return for them - wait for it - more games at MCG - Friday nights and all big games.
Why am I not surprised.

Stuff the Melbournians - if they want a national comp - all states must have right to home games in final if they earn it.

How dare you! Isn't the whole point of the home and away season to see which "non-victorian" teams earn the right to play at "the home of football".

I come from a nonVictorian state that will never feature in the finals come hell or high water. I wholly soupport the breaking of the agreement. NO way will there ever be a Tasmanian team on Grand Final day even though we have played the game for over a 110 years. It is only fair to break it open to everyone.
The assistant principal of the Primary School I worked at for a while did the dirty on her ex-husband when he didn't re-direct his mail after he left her for the young secretary. The letter arrived from th MCC saying her ex had finally made it to the role of the MCC members, so sh redirected it saying he no longer wanted to be a member. He had been on the list since birth. They are a pack of insular bastards, but I am pissed so that may have loosened my tongue.

And for the record, I think it's great that a deal has (basically) been struck. Clubs have a right to host their own finals at their own grounds, should they finish at the top of the table. Bring on September! Would never want the GF to be moved from the G and thankfully that was not on the cards. So you still get the fight for the Holy Grail played in your own backyard, Bayseys, just not most games in the lead up, if all goes to plan.

Don't worry, I'm just taking the P*SS. I would much rather the swans play their home final at the SCG or TS than the MCG (even though it usually means I miss out on seeing them). I just thought I'd quote the article for you to see the way some Victorians think about the AFL.

It's almost laughable that they see a fair competition as robbing them of their right to have every major game played in Melbourne.

Had a heated debate with a Sydney-based rabid Richmond supporter, one who happens to basically be my boss! EEK! He favoured the tradition. I favour the practicality.

lol, It was front page, massive heading. It was a pretty big issue but now I think they've moved on to Carltons involvement with the underworld.

I am a Victorian whose formative years was during the days of the old VFL, when finals in September was an iconic part of the Melbourne culture. I have long been converted now to the principles of the national competition, which includes the playing of finals in the home state of the side that has earned that right.

It's worth remembering that the Swans have been victims of the practice of playing all finals in Victoria. In 1986 and 1987, the very idea of hosting a final outside Victoria was unthinkable. Had the current rules for home finals been in place at that time, the Swans would have hosted three or four finals at the SCG during those two years. Instead, we had to play all those finals in Melbourne.

The tradition of playing finals in Victoria dates back to the old VFL. It's not the old VFL anymore, it's a national competition, so such traditions have no place and must be discarded.

To help foster clear thinking about why finals must be played in the home state of the team that has earned the advantage of home state, here is a question to consider. Suppose the national competition was formed by the expansion of the SANFL instead of the VFL. Would you support the playing of all finals in South Australia?
