I'm rather pissed off. Southern Cross Ten which broadcasts in Canberra and the surrounding region is advertising Lions V Bulldogs as the game they are doing on Saturday night.

Why?


Can anyone tell me why they are doing this game?

They suck severly.

This game could really put the Swans on the map for premiership contention if we win the game, so why are they being snubbed?

Plus the ad is the same one being aired in Brisbane.

Southern Cross Ten really have no idea.

At least I can watch it on Fox footy, but that will most likely mean having to listen to special comments from Mr Charisma: Garry Ayres

The biggest game of the round and it's been shown only on Foxtel, even a replay wouldnt be so bad.

And yet TVGuide.com.au still shows them showing the Adel v Syd game?? Very strange... and very stupid! Since I am on holiday, I will have to try to keep track of the score on the net tonight

Ring them and complain. Write a letter to. With TV this works. Especially in rural regions.

Has nothing to do with bgiggest game of the year or whatever - Ch 10 would have decided they were covering the Lions Dogs game pretty much as soon as the draw came out. Means that all regional stations as well as all capital cities except Adelaide and Sydney will pick up that game. Adelaide and Sydney will get the Fox feed on Ch 10 for obvious reasons.

The biggest fault with the TV rights IMO.

There have been times in Vic where not only have we not had a free to air telecast, but also no radio telecast either.

I have emailed and rung many times.
Here is my wish list.

1) Strike a deal (review the agreement) where a replay can be shown of the game at 3am or whatever time.
Then we can avoid the game and stay up and watch it or tape it.

2) The Swans email all registered people in Vic a list of pubs who will be showing the game.
Surely it can't be too hard to provide a list of pubs with Fox Footy so we can ring them when needed and ask if they will be showing the game?

3) Keep in mind that the development of the national league depends partly on the blockbusters being available to the general public when the next set of TV rights will be allocated.

Either way, point 2) is something that could be done now.
I am not travelling 1 1/2 hours to Rye or 1 hour to Sth Melb to see a game at a pub....

That is what Fox does - ie replays the games it doesn't show live in the early hours of the morning - and it would detract from the value of Fox's contract if the FTA channels also showed replays.

(Not to mention the value revenue that C10 can earn by showing informercials at that time of night!)

Hah pretty much. Southern Cross is the most lazy and incompetent station.

I still think they'll play the Swans game because earlier this year they televised a Essendon game at 7:30pm when all the advertising and TV guides said a Sydney game at 7pm.

They often advertise one game and play another.

Don't get me started on when The Simpsons was delayed 38 minutes by big brother

Channel ten has first choice of games over Fox. They make the selections in blocks about six weeks out. At the time Brisbane was on fire and the Bulldogs being a Melbourne team had an attraction for the Melbourne market. Plus there was the perception that the Swans were boring. Had they made the decision this week they may have reversed it, though the other match does have finals implications as well and the Bulldogs are in good form. But if you have Fox you don't have to worry it comes on at 7.40 here and is obviously live out of Adelaide.
