6 games at SA in 2004

I did a tour of Stadium Australia today, and they were saying that the AFL is increasing the number of games played out there next year.

One pre-season, 3 block-busters, but that leaves two others. Anyone know which?

I hope they aren't Swans matches.

We will certainly be skating on thin ice with the affluent supporters that have traditionally been our lifeblood... who don't like having to go out West for games...

      Interesting news.

Possibly the Bulldogs or even 'The Pride of Western Sydney' -Eddie's Magpies are thinking of playing a home game there.

I think 4 home and away matches would be a nice figure at the moment for SA, like Charlie said I'm not too sure how the SCG faithful would feel about more games at SA.

They've obviously taken into account the 2 home finals we'll be playing there

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Great, if true, as it means more LIVE football in Sydney. Although if its going to be say 2 intestate teams...say Collingwood and Essendon, I think I'd give it a miss...they'd have to involve the swannies for it to have a chance at being successful.
Although I'm ambivalent about SA (it's a good sized stadium vs the lack of atmosphere and the tight line of sight) the SCG is much much easier to get to for us southern 'westies'... straight onto the M5, ED, and up out of the tunnel at Sydney Boys High.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

My guess, and this is totally my own thoughts, is that they will move the Anzac day game out there and reserve one final.

So it may be 5 + 1 optional.

Then again..... perhaps one International Rules game is bound for Sydney next year?

I heard rumours that Collingwood could be playing a home game or two in Sydney next year.

This might explain the extra SA games.

I could see how against Sydney would work, but any team that wants to play non-swans games should really be considering a move up here full time. Cant see Collingwood doing that.

No chance of Collingwood moving any games away from Melbourne, methinks.

They are Charlie. By all reports in the paper today, the deal is virtually signed and sealed.

Hope so. But I can't see it.
Collingwood wouldn't give up a home Essendon blockbuster. If they were to play a non-Swans game they'd probably play Fremantle or Port Adelaide or someone like that.

The part-time Sydney thing like the Kangaroos tried a couple of years ago was a disaster for them. When they said they had no intention of becoming a Sydney team, I think the Sydney public believed them more than the Melbourne public did.

I'm from melbourne, through the old south melbourne brigade, so i'm not fussed where we play in Sydney. I'd prefer more games down here to be truthful, but I think we play better at Stadium Australia, well seem to anyway, so lets play as many games there as possible.
