He'd be just about the best third defender in the league. Put him back in the team.
    We hate Anthony Rocca
    We hate Shannon Grant too
    We hate scumbag Gaspar
    But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

I think he should be spelled correctly.
      And permanently in the team.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

If he is fit and running again at his maximum pace then he will be given a game.

I have full faith in the coaching staff to make the team selections needed to beat who ever we run out against.

Barring any further injuries and a full pre season under his belt (where he can work on getting back some of the lost speed off the mark) can't see any reason why Schuable won't be standing at FB come round one and I am sure the coaching staff feel the same.

Maybe that's why he never gets picked!!

Explains Malceski, too. And Kouta's years off. When the coach says he's spelling a player, perhaps he means it!

OK, so this poll helps to vindicate my feelings re Schauble, knowing that so many of you agree with me. I can only hope that someone on the match committee might read it and takes notice.

So 82% think Schuabs should have some role in the team.

I personally voted for "specialist FB...", specifically for these teams come finals time:

WC - Cox, Gardner going forward. We were lucky that LRT was able to pull it off last time, and cox had to eventually go back in the ruck. WC obviously saw a weakness there last time.

St Kilda - Leo Barry beat Gehrig once, and although Gehrigs beaten every time since, the swans seem to think he can still do it. No, we need a bigger body. Not to mention kositski and Reiwoldt.

                Melbourne - Neitz.

Richmond - Double team Richo with Schuabs and Barry and half the game is won.

It is not easy as it seems. If I was the opposition coach, as soon as Schauble is playing as a key backman, I would take his designated match-up somewhere else and put a mobile forward there.

For example, for Melbourne, I would move Neitz to CHB and may be leave Robertson as the FF. Where would you play Schaubles in this case?

The last thing we could afford is a specialist FB who would spend 50% of time on the bench since this would deny 60 mins of rest for the smaller rotation of our smaller players. This is not the luxury we could afford.

I too agree it's not easy, only for the reason that the back 6 have to mould as a single unit and do anything for their mates.

To do this they have to understand their strengths and limitations and if you just keep moving blokes in and out of that particular unit, then things won't gel.

The way I see it, the club has decided it's either LRT or Schaubes. LRT better get with it too, because he should be the man to take Fraser but won't have the strength till 2006.

This pre-season will determine whether Schaubes stays or not.

I reckon, like dimelb, people should be able to spell his name right for a starters.

I can't imagine that teams would take away their key forward unless he was already being well beaten. Putting Neitz at CHB and playing Robbo at FF would probably suit us.

The 3rd option, but I think he should be ahead of LRT.

I agree we need Schauble for these, but there are others where his presence would give us more flexibility in matchups and where the big body would be an advantage - think Kangas e.g.
