Are the majority people only voting Goodes because of his performance on Saturday night vs Adelaide? My opinion has been Kirk from the start and I don't think it will change.

I'm going for Goodes. For me, the three standout candidates are Brett Kirk, Barry Hall and Adamn Goodes. The others have their strong points, but IMO are not in the same level as these 3 guys.

Kirky is consistent. Barry is brilliant. IMO Goodes is both. Even with 2 busted knees in 2004, he put together some great performances. He is just as likely to bob up with a timely mark & rebound in the defensive 50 as he is scoring a freak goal. When we're in trouble, Roosy knows he can just stick Goodsey in the centre and watch him get the ball. He plays fair, and doesn't spend half his gametime pleading for free kicks, or gesturing wildly at teammates when they ignore his leads.

      To summarise......

      Code:
Consistent Form (ie: doesn't go missing) G K
      Steps up a level when captaining G K H
      good temperament G K
      game-breaking ability G H
influence all over the ground G K
      * Please note, if I have left a player out of the table above, it is not because they don't possess the quality in question, just that they don't have it to the same extent as the others.

Off-field, I think all 3 are articulate and intelligent, and wouldn't have any problem with any of them being "the face of the swans". Actually, I would be happy with any of them as captain, but I think Goodes is the pick of the bunch.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Before the rotation i wanted Hall to captain us as it would give us a superstar captain who would get alot of media attention to help us market the Swans.

My opinion changed when Goodes captained his first game against Geelong where he was totally inspired. I knew then we had a player who could be both and not only that, but have someone that the Aboriginal community could look up to as well in case they weren't already doing that with Goodes. (who has always been a great ambassodor towards Aboriginal affairs).

So yes, Goodes is the man IMO.

Nice analysis. I'm just not sure how consistent Goodes is. I'm sure there is an element of high expectation that clouds this view too though.

                  I'm all for the Goodes!
I was all for Barry until the Geelong and Melbourne games! Goodes was definitely an inspiration to the younger players liek LRT!

I was in two minds for quite some time but I have come to agree that I think Goodes would make a good choice for captain.

                    Kirk is a close second.

                          1. Goodes
                          2. Bolton

                          Shock, horror, disbelief.

I think that Adam does better at inspiring the team in the vital moments and has a better impact on the game.

He'd at least manage to touch the ball in previous games.

I've been a big fan of Jude for Captain for many years. However, I'm now leaning towards the Goodes train more over the last month or so. He just seems to have that extra edge.
