    cometh the hour, cometh..

The time has arrived for this team to make a statement to the melbourne football world who have nagging doubts about the teams ability to beat anything but ordinary teams or teams out of form (a la Demons) in Melbourne.
The bummers are in form and border on a half decent team. However they should be beaten comfortably by any team with ideas of participating well into September.
I suspect we will either start equal favorites or perhaps slight outsiders which is a reflection of the public perception of Sydneys ability to win in Melbourne.
A win here is critical to our chances in September.
Please for the sake of a long time doubter, dispose of this mob quickly and comprehensively and give that pie faced perennial bleater Mr Kevin ( the game has long passed you by) Sheedy no excuse for the loss.
Perhaps he might even be forced to say they were beaten by a better side.

this a huge game in the context of our season and will see how we handle a finals type atmosphere and pressure. massive crowd should be in attendance and i'm sure the opening 10 or 15 minutes will be frenetic.

i just hope that we really give it those ferals and exorcise the demons of the past few years. its time to beat the scum in melbourne !!!!!!

i really want nick davis to stand up in a game like this and get some great form at the right time of the season. at the end of the day, when he kicks a few we usually do alright. can some stats guru find out about this????

He's working on that. He's thinking about wearing some kind of flashing light device on his head when alone in the goalsquare.
Sit down or i swear to God i'll have you shot.

I would have thought spotting up Davis around 45-50m wouoldn't be such a difficult set play to organise and could easily get us a couple of goals per game. Seems such a waste that we don't do that a few times per game.

What worries me is why we send all 18 players back into D50. Why not send 16 instead? If MOL and ND were camped inside F50 with their opponents, we would always have targets when we get the ball out of D50.

Really looking forward to this game.

Win it and win it well then we are genuine top 4 material, as the Bombers over the last four to five weeks have been as good as half the top 8 at present.

It is going to be absolute joy if we win and absolute pit of despair if we lose, it's just going to be one of those games I feel.

McPhee is set to return. As for hitting Davis on the chest, good idea, and not so much because he's not ok overhead but more he's not that tall so you give the opposition a chance to spoil. Ditto for MOL and ROK, even Barry, put it out in front of them and allow them to run onto it. I fear the midfield skills aren't up to it though. And as someone else mentioned, sometimes the forward 50 is cleared of all players - stupidity. It has been confirmed that Solomon will join McVeigh on the sidelines this week.

I think Davis is contributing OK at present - even though his accuracy is not always what it was. The one I'd like to see run into some form is Williams.
And we must take Essendon seriously.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The game has long passed Kevin by has it?

It was only in 2000 and 2001 his team appeared in 2 grand finals, one year almost going without losing for the entire home and away season.

That hack Sheedy is coaching a team who right now are playing some pretty good footy, so I wonder who has been long passed by what exactly??

Davis really does get a bit of a bad rap compared to some other favourites here.

Of course we'd like him to do better, and part of that is driven by the fact that he's one of the few highly talented players in the side (and I think this talent is not utilised by the team enough) but his stats aren't actually atrocious, which one would think given comments over time here.

Some brief comparisons - per game:

                            Davis
                            2003 13.2 disposals, 1.3 goals
                            2004 8.7 disposals, 1.8 goals

                            O'Keefe
                            2004 14.5 disposals, 1.4 goals
                            2005 14.1 disposals, 0.9 goals

                            O'Loughlin
                            2003 11.7 disposals, 2.6 goals
                            2004 10.2 disposals, 2.1 goals
                            2005 11.4 disposals, 2.4 goals

                            Ablett
                            2005 14.7 disposals, 0.4 goals

There are a large number of Swans players in the 13-16 disposal bracket per game (Davis, Ablett, Barry, C Bolton, Buchanan, Kennelly, Hall, Mathews) and only 4 players above that.

Leading goalkickers (and accuracy) for Swans this year:
                            Hall............... 53 (59%)
                            O'Loughlin...... 36 (63%)
                            Davis............ 20 (57%)
                            O'Keefe......... 17 (41%)
                            Goodes......... 17 (61%)

No one else in double figures.

These five make up 65% of our goals. Only Melbourne has a higher reliance on their top 5 goalkickers (66%) and those 5 have kicked 175 goals (against 143).
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Interesting figures NWB's. And sometimes the goal kicking accuracy should be measured against where you take your kicks. I would suggest that MOL has closer shots on average than Hall or any of the others.
