I attended the three years previous to last year (2001-2003) and I know at least 2002 had WAY more than 600 people there. I'm pretty sure 2001 had >600 and Mike might actually be able to remember 2003 better than me to tell me how many were there then but the number I vaguely remember hearing mentioned was 750.

I was planning to get the $$ together now I have my new job to pay for my ticket, but if it means getting shunted into another room for TV, well stuff that for a joke! Aside from that, they KNOW they'll get a lot of people along, so why not book a bigger venue? I know the hilton is prestigious etc etc, but REALLY - they must have had their heads in the sand to book for only 600 people!

DEFINITELY not good enough, and they certainly won't be getting my hard earned after this.

You guys are really push-overs. I dare any of the Melbourn club does that to their paying members you could imagine what would happened.

I wouldn't say push overs - we just didnt expect something like this to occur.

You are right - members of melbourne clubs would never be treated like this, however the direction has come from above and they have left it to the events dept to deliver the bad news to the plebs.

And yet some members tables haven't been moved at all - as to why we dont know. what was the selection criteria?

When I checked the Swans site this morning, there was no mention that it was a sell out - so what gives?

But be rest assured - action is being taken.........
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I rang the Hilton, you can fit 700 in the Grand Ballroom, so i think they chose the venue well, the Hilton told me the area we will all be seated in is right at the doors of the Grand Ballroom, its not a side room at all. They have done many dinners like this, it uses the same entry doors as the Grand Ballroom. Know one could predict that there would suddenly be greater demand than usual. Usually you can book in in the last week, and now its sold out about 5 weeks before hand. Id say they booked the venue based on previous guest history and none of us know how many people attend the night and besides you cant fit many more people in any other venue in Sydney unless you go to the boring convention centre, in 2003 the swans held everything there - how boring.

I think we should be greatful that we can still attend the night.

I think it's disgusting treatment to the people who literally keep the club going. Sponsors are great, but who's going to sponsor a club with no support base.

$130 is a lot of money, and if I were paying that much, I'd want to be in the same room as the event.

I honestly can't believe that the club has the gall to disregard payed up members like this. Not many supporters actually attend these events (in terms of the total amount of members) and you'd think those that go would be recognised by the club for their dedication and willingness to part with a hell of a lot of money.

Grrr...stuff like this makes me so angry.

Amanda said there are no bigger venues (I don't know if that's true or not). When I mentioned Darling Harbour (the exhibition centre) she said the costs of setting up all the catering make it prohibitive.

In my opinion the $30 discount is not really enough (especially when I was not given a choice) but I am still going. If the season finishes the way we all hope this will be an event I do NOT want to miss. I can see myself spending as much of the night in the main room as I can.

If they had offered two seating categories (and prices) from the outset they might well have got enough volunteers for the 'cheap seats' to avoid having to displace non-volunteers.

It's this forced displacement that really rankles, and the suggestion of second class citizenship.

Perhaps someone who works in the vicinity could go to the Hilton, check it out and report back.

Found this floor plan on the Hilton website

Presumably the area in question is what is labelled "Exhibition Space"

You're kidding, right? I suppose we should be grateful that the club allows us to come to the games to watch the team play too (remember folks, a $300 season ticket is a privilege, not a right).

$160 is a heck of a lot of money for an average 3-course meal, and a bunch of speeches. Some people have paid up WEEKS in advance to go to this event so they can support their club. I realise that sponsors are very important, but I think it shows a bit of disrespect to the ordinary punter who has paid up for a ticket because they care about the club!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

having looked at the floor plane I know exactly where it is.

We had our xmas party there a few years ago - its outside the ballroom where people normally go for a smoke - whilst its quite a big area - its still outside the main ballroom. And the door openings are only so wide. If you are in the middle you wont see anything but the wall - hence the reason for the Big tv screen I suppose. But if the dance floor and band are set up where they say it will be - they may be putting the seating plan in reverse (if that makes any sense)

I guess those of us who have been mucked around before with Swans events are at the point that if we just sit back and take whats dished out - the problems will just keep occurring and someone else will be mucked around. If they get it right the first time things like this shouldnt happen.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
