Charlie's match report (Syd v Mel) is up!

also linked off the homepage and the round 5 match summary page.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I always find Charlie a bit too negative, but saying that, I was calling for Roos head at 3/4 time.

There is no doubt we have a great forward line. Probably the best and certainly the most flexible for a long long time.

But any forward line can be flooded if the ball isnt coming in quickly. All that Fridays game showed us is that with quick centre clearances, our forward line is easily capable of 10 goal quarters.

So the centre is the absolute key for Sydney, and is even worth more attention than KPs in the back line.
Williams needs to learn how to break tags, and we need to get MekleJohn (or preferably Doyle) taking on more hitouts to give us a chance. Bolton should be instructed to handball not kick too.

Without a quality tap ruckman our defence will struggle. It will be very interesting against Collingwood this week. They have a tall forward line, so centre clearences will be even more important, but they do have a weak ruckman.

LOL Barry... I was fairly negative in that article; one quarter isn't enough to get excited about, brilliant or not. However, after the dissappointment of last year - I declared us to be top two material during the preseason - I'm determined not to get excited about footy this year!!!

I agree with what you said. In the last term, O'Loughlin, Schneider, Hall and Jude Bolton were all hanging around the 50m line for significant periods. It allowed us to take a very direct approach to our attacking zone, and we were able to exploit the natural ability our forwards have without crowding them. It especially gave Barry Hall more room to shake off his second opponent. Having seen it work so well last Friday, it MUST become the favoured game plan... or I will be VERY upset.
      We hate Anthony Rocca
      We hate Shannon Grant too
      We hate scumbag Gaspar
      But Leo WE LOVE YOU!
