    AFL Club in the X

Hi there. We have been watching interstate games at the Courthouse in Newtown, which is very Swan friendly, but were thinking of giving the AFL club a go for the Bombers game. Would appreciate it if you guys could lettuce know what it's like, as we:

    1. like to cheer alot when something good happens, don't mind the odd song either
    2. like to let the ump know he may need to be a tad more consistant
    3. like to let Lloyd know that he looks like a knob when he tosses grass in the air
    4. like to and this is important, sing the club song if and when we win (some people don't like this)

Of course, if you think WE sound like knobs, just reply back in the negative for the above. Or don't reply at all.

    Cheese.

I went to club to watch a game there for the first time last Saturday night. The top floor room was full, beer cheap, meals okay ($12.50 and the both the steaks and pasta passed the test) and the atmosphere good. Good on the big screen. In the last quarter, some were yelling and no-one at my table could stay in their chairs. Lots of clapping and cheering throughout. It emptied incredibly quickly after the loss, though. And you could pop downstairs to check the Doggies-Lions game on the other TVs.

Come along and yell and sing as much as you like. I doubt if anyone will object.

No, the top level and the loft (the room with the big screen) are both smoke free.

As for making noise and singing, no problems. I've watched at least five of the away games at the ARC this year and as the amount of people in Red & White turning up for the game has increased so has the amount of noise.

Very pro Swans club. Well it is the 'Sydney Swans Aussie Rules Club' now after all. I'll be there cheering on our boys.

I'm thinking of giving it a go this week - just up the road & i can roll home afterwards! I presume "membership" is pretty easy to organise on the night?

$5.50 for 1 year. You make that back on drink prices in the first night
Sydney Swans memberships now come with membership to the ARC, I think I read that some where.

            Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, when we got our Swans Member card, there was an AFL member card in there as well - valid to 6/2006 from memory.

Cool, thanks. Pretty certain my budget runs to that. Just.

Yep. For the first time this year, members were given automatic membership to the ARC.

Went there for an away match for the first time against the Cows and it was a nice atmosphere there. People having a nice meal and wearing their swannies gear proudly. I, being a pretty loud supporter normally was pretty comfortable about shouting at the TV, seemed like the norm. I also got a few high 5's when Bucky did something good (and of course the head hanging in shame when he missed the easy set shot).

Twas a good place to go despite the loss.

I've never been there for a game before, but I'll be there (in opposition colours) on Saturday.
Would getting a parking spot be a hassle?

There is a 24hr car park behind the club, opposite the police station. Costs $9 IIRC.

Other wise you can trawl the side streets looking for a free park but they can be as rare as hens teeth. It is Saturday night in the Cross after all

Why the Black & Red colours BTW????

They're the Lurker's true colours that only make appearances at Swans games when the Swans are playingthe Bombers. The Lurker is all Red and White at all other times.

                          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

We're broadminded - I was even polite to a Kangaroos supporter there last week.
