    Maxfield set to return

    Story here

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Good stuff. More pressure to hold your place in the 22 the better.

If Stewy can get up to full fitness ( a big ask in the 3 games ), he could be a real valuable asset in the finals.

Reckon. Recently watched the R3 Lions game again and had forgotten how hard Stewie is.

Will be a great impact player from the bench for 10 to 12 minutes a quarter during finals time.

Allows you to rest and rotate Kirk, Bolton, Ablett, Bucky and not lose any strength, hardness at the ball and long kicking when Maxfield comes on.

Looking forward to it. When fit, easily in our best 18, even if he doesn't start there. A bit of grey power...
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

              GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREY Power!

A mate reminded me today how we used to call him Maddog, apt for the way he used to play

He's finished. Absolutely no need for him.

if he can get fit in a few weeks, and he is the type of guy whose natural fitness will help him, he would be worth more in the finals than the series of youngsters we have had in the team that get about 30 mins game time max...McVeigh, Malceski etc. I am not sure whether he would replace Dempster or Vogels because that would mean more change to team structure...perhaps Mathews or Fosdike would be in some danger, or Mathews to HB and Dempster out?

i also remember goodesy saying he thought it would be a good idea for maxfield to be captain if we made the finals (or maybe just the GF), and whilst I am not 100% sure about that, it tells me that maxfield is the kind of guy the players want back, and that they would lift if he was back in the side...so its not just what he would provide...it might be the extra 1% every other player may provide if he comes back

What if he plays three finals, gathers 12-15 touches a game and kicks a crucial goal or two... and then announces that he wants to play on next year in pursuit of the 300?

Personally, I'd be inclined to let him play on, to see if he can get there. He's eligible for the vet's list in 2006, so he's only taking a spot that we can't fill with another senior player in any case.

History says he wont perform in the finals. History is littered with unfit finals failures.

I wonder if he gets back in the team, and we make the grand final, will he be captain in the big one ?

                          It's either that or Benny.

                            Charlie,

That's what I hope happens - Stewie back and just enjoying his footy. He was having some really off games early this year but his whole personal life was falling apart. His hardness (as long as that didn't translate into extra frees against) would be a bonus. And, as IAG says, I reckon Stewie back on the field would lift the whole team. Acting captain for finals? Let's see how he goes when he next runs on the field.

I know I'll be cheering my heart out.
