    Swans to TS?

Who here reckons that Telstra Stadium should be the swans home ground? in my opinion i reckon it should be because its a bigger ground, when we get use to it then we can play preety well on the MCG, Subiaco & AAMI. But i still think the swans should play atleast 4 games at the SCG though.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Swans to TS?

Sorry '89, I have to disagree with that.

The SCG is a massive advantage to the swans. It is shorter than every other ground and I think wider than every other ground.

To see the WCE the other week being hammered on the wings yet cramped for room down the corridor was fantastic to see.

You've got to win a preliminary final to get to the grand final. This year we're gonna have to win a final at AAMI or Subiaco to make the GF, but if Sydney get a top 2 possie it should be the rest of the comp saying "bugger.. got to win a final at the SCG."

Instead its, "oh, Telstra, thats pretty much like the other grounds". Playing Brisbane at Telstra possibly cost us a chance at a GF in 2003.

And I suspect that 40,000 at the SCG would be just as motivating for the players as 80,000 at Telstra because the crowd is much closer to the ground.

You have to be able to play on big grounds to win a flag though.

It may be an advantage in the home and away part of the season (and who can tell if it's the ground or just travel factor) but it is a hinderance come finals time when we have to play at the "G" or interstate.

Yes that is a very good point which is why i'm quite happy we're playing Brisbne there this week, along with at the MCG round 22, we need as much big ground finals practice as we can get.

                  No thanks.

I love the SCG. I go for the football and the atmosphere. Not the food, the amenities or short queues. Sure if they improve it the experience is better for all, but in the meantime its still good for our footy.

TS is good for the big games, because it provides extra financial benefits and increases the exposure to the rest of Sydney, but I vote for keeping the SCG indefinately.

                    I do.

But then I also reckon it should have the same dimensions as the MCG (it's very close to being too narrow for a football ground).

I also reckon the low seating profile gives the place f'all atmosphere, especially in comparison to the SCG.

And finally I also reckon we should be sharing it with the recently relocated West Sydney Bulldogs!

Untill then however, please lets stay at the SCG.

                      Bring it on!

                      The SCG is past it.

Too small, crap stands, no rail access.

They can't do pre-season training there when the Cricket season is on.

I don't think Olympic Parks rail access is all that much of a positive.
We seem to spend less time in the bus line at the SCG than in the rail line at Telstra ~ and the crowd surge onto the trains is frankly dangerous for old people.

One of the things that puzzles me about this debate is that the SCG lovers seem to be happy with a sub-standard sized ground and outdated stands.

                              Bingo Dave.

My preference (and hey, I'm a cockroach) is to lengthen the ground and update the facilities. But it ain't gonna happen, given the recalcitrance of the SCG Trust and the contract we've (the AFL) signed with Homebush.
