Blood Oath - Article from the Australian

We all know the discipline team orientated approach of our players is one of our strength. This article gives us a real insight into how this came about and how we generate that discipline and team bond.

I love to hear about this stuff from our club and just goes to show you how far we have come in the last 25 years.

        T'was me, sorry

But hey mod my intention wasn't a debate on Swans v Bloods name but more about how the leadership group was set up and how they identified the need to develop a culture where they proved to the rest of the football world that as a club we are as hard working and disciplined as the rest.

That was what I liked out of the article, especially as this has been debated on this site over and over again.

Only this type of attitude & committment will ultimately bring success to the club, something I have harped on about many a time.

Definitely in agreeance DST. my thread header wasnt supposed to set up a 'which name is better' discussion - thought that the 'blood' connection / concept was the important link to the notions of hard work, commitment and brotherhood that i love so much about the club and our player group. oil be clearer next toim

            Hi Shippo,

I forgot to say welcome to the RWO family as well.

All on this board have the one common goal in supporting the Swans and seeing them win a flag in our lifetime

All except someone called footyhead that is !!!!!

              howdy DST....cheers for that!

anyways, we all know about the swan boys courage under fire & team spirit are some of their most appealing characteristics. it just really gave me a buzz for this years flag hopes to see it articulated by goodsey and the leadership group in such a direct and positive way. albeit covertly until now. gotts to love that kind of carry on

                Swannies v Bloods

I've always preferred 'Bloods' to 'Swans' and especially 'Swanneees' which reeks far too much of acquaintances who don't really follow footy but like to talk to me about it when Sydney win.

I always wear my Bloods jumper to games. I'm not the most vocal of supporters, but I'll yell "Bloods" before "Swans." It conveys a sense of guts and live-or-die glory. Thanx for the link to the article, I was really glad to read of the players opinions on the matter.

Maybe Myles Baron-Hay (is that a real name or what?!) and Zeus think that 'Swans' is more marketable than 'Bloods' but in a city where Rugby League is the dominant code, dubbing the Sydney Football Club 'Bloods' could go a long way toward raising their profile. Especially given the way they're playing now.

Sydney are just about the toughest team in the AFL. The Dogs are faster, the Saints more talent-laden, the Wiggles more skilled, but we are the toughest. A serious gun ballplayer is the only difference between the Bloods and premiership favouritism.

Even Mick Malthouse has been moved to comment a few times that Sydney play "finals football every week."

Totally in agreement. I cant think of any where in the field where the opposition could get an easy ride. There is simply no relief space anywhere. They will have to work hard to score against us. This is our major advantage.

The only place I think they might find a chink in our armor is our ball carriers such as Fosdike. This is where I think the return of Maxfield might help for a short spell. I think we just need to condition Maxfield carefully until the final and let him loose then. If he could maintain his charge for about 3-4 games, we might be in with a good chance.

I see Nicky D was named on the bench for Sunday.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

That just saves him from turning his hand to politics.
