Schneids mentions the crowd response in the 4th quarter in an article about his nomination in today's SMH.

Schneider, who slotted two of the Swans' 10 goals in the last quarter against Melbourne, said he thrived on the crowd noise.

"Definitely the last quarter, you could really hear the crowd and it gives you a bit extra, a bit of energy," he said. "I've never played in front of that type of crowd before."

Opposition players have commented on numerous occasions how intimidating the ground is when the Slow Sydney Chant goes up similar to an English soccer match and something that is truly unique to our support. No other supporter group in the AFL has the same intimidation as the Sydney fans when in full voice so on behalf of the player's thankyou very much.

That chant is started by two older blokes in the Bill O Reilly Stand sitting next to me. They have a few goes at it in full voice and then stop to see if it picks up. They are loved when they do it by people around them and as Maxfield said, it lifts the boys. I love it, works like a charm.

The bloke who starts it apparently does a lot of voice over ads and has been in a few of the Campbells Soup ads.

Most embarrassing song at the SCG , of course , was the National Anthem as rendered by that bunch of squeaky , wimpy , scruffy youths last week.

Contrast that with how Brisbane handled the anthem last week - put us to shame.

I like the Sydney chant - but to be frank I hate those soccer style songs and chants - like listening to a bunch of parrotts.

Watch - barrack by all means - I do like the fact that the supporters get behind the team to get em to lift - but I hate rehearsed soccer chants.

IMO people just sing at the soccer cause there's nothing else to do.

something has just dawned on me, i think that was the first game i ever went to... i went to a few when i was a little tacker but that was the defining game for me and my parents

was that west coast game right near the end of the season? and the rain was falling slightly throughout the game and as soon as the final siren went, it just bucketed down???

i have three memories from my first game:

-the rain when we went back to the car

-the annoyance that i didnt know the victory song

-"why the hell are they booing that fella thats wearing no. 1??? they must really hate him"

That was Rd 22 1996, last game before the finals. The weather that day was ATROCIOUS, blowing a gale, raining off and on, and yep, it did absolutely bucket down after the game. I remember thinking how crazy the people running onto the field in the pouring rain after the final siren to celebrate our minor premiership being (this of course was in my pre-Swans-fanatic years, now I'd be doing it too!).

well, yup that was my first experience
we had no idea of the significance of that game, we thought it was just some random game...

so that was the first time for the chant?

Bloody atrocious that match! Dad drove in an HOUR before gates opened, my umbrella blew inside out and getting into the ground first was NO consolation! Other than that it was an AWESOME match and I cannot wait to see that happen again!
