Early Draft & Priority Picks

How do we compare to other clubs since 1996 in getting selections?Surely we must be one of the better clubs who have not got a bonus for finishing low on the ladder over that time?I am thinking of the selection only....not if we traded it off.

We haven't finished lower than 12th for 10 seasons (11 counting this one). Geelong is the only team with a longer stretch to a bottom four finish.

We traded away a few other picks and players in the draft we got Jude Bolton, Nick Fosdike and Ryan Fitzgerald in. All were top 10 I think, but in what was considered a poor draft.

In 1998. No, we didn't trade picks in that draft. We traded Jason Mooney (Cameron's older brother) and was it Arnott? Or someone like that.

We've traded early picks(And later) for Jason Ball(Darren Glass), Paul Williams(Daniel Motlop) and Barry Hall(Nick Dal Santo, James Kelly)

Here are the '98 trades as follows

Paul Licuria and Mark Orchard for #3 (Nic Fosdike)

Brett O'Farrell for Pick #4 (Ryan Fitzgerald) and #36 (on-traded for Andrew Bomford)

Jason Mooney for #8 (Jude Bolton)

should've traded for one more, as Lenny Hayes went at #11

Not quite true. To get pick 3 from Collingwood we gave up our second round pick (no 24).

And, while I don't have the details, I think we gave up our original first round pick in the trade that landed no 4. Certainly none of picks 3,4 or 8 were originally ours in that draft so we must have lost our original first round pick somewhere along the way.

Speaking of priority and early draft picks, I think its a ****ing disgrace that Hawthorn (Williams) and Collingwood (Tarrant) have sent these players off for surgery before the season is over. They have clearly decided that they dont care to win anymore games and would rather the extra draft pick. Its time the AFL stopped rewarding this crap approach by crap teams. I hope the Pies collect the spoon as it would serve them right (and after tonights performance they might just do that).

I seriously doubt Williams and Tarrant could have played on this season, and to suggest losing these players is the sole reason that those teams may *win* priority picks is like pfft.

I didnt suggest that. However I will suggest that their attitude is that they dont seem to care whether they win anymore games because there is better reward not to.

I think it was pick #12 for the pick #3 + Licuria and Orchard.

And Collingwood traded that pick to Essendon for Olarenshaw and Essendon picked up Rama.

That is correct. We traded Orchard, Licuria and pick 12 for pick 3.

Our second round pick was used to select Heath James as father and son selection.

Hoping to get priority picks didn't end Tarrant's season. An MRI scan did.
