Who started the Wave

The wave was poor form but i noticed it before the lappin injury.

And Charlie must you be so serious about everything at such a young age. Relax the crowd were just trying to wake themselves up after such a dull period in the game. I was falling asleep too.

How did the crowd not notice that the game had stopped, a stretcher was run onto the ground and then the cart drove onto the ground. That typically means a nasty injury.

Ah, but why stop cheering for a short while. Would hate to get bored for 5 minutes just sitting there and waiting for a player to be carried off...

FWIW, The stretcher took a long time coming. Obviously the Brisbane medicos werent aware immediately it was broken either.

I was at the game and although I'm not usually a fan of the wave, I jumped up a few times as it went past. We didn't know how badly Lappin was hurt or what was wrong, we saw him on the big screen looking at his leg and we thought he might do a Cressa and try and bash his knee back in.

Maybe the tv coverage didn't make it obvious, but he was applauded off the ground by most of the crowd, certainly by those in the Swans members area. Once the game started again the wave soon died out, as most people were there to watch the footy.

I don't see what the big deal is either. Our seats are in a position whereby the field is blocked somewhat near 'moving' stands, right where Lappin was injured. We couldn't see what was going on, but we could see the wave building, and it was building for about 10 minutes before he went down. My niece and nephew (4 and 6) were absolutely amazed and enthralled by the wave, so my whole family enjoyed it.

It had nothing to do with respect, most of us (certainly all members around us) were oblivious to what was going on. Looked like Lappin was moving around to us, but as I said we were obstructed by the stands. If you wanted to see how respectful that Sydney crowd was on Sunday, you should have seen the standing ovation the crowd gave to the veterans before the game.

Here, here Mel - as mentioned elsewhere the whole "vibe" of the day was excellent. The wave was part of that (& I normally detest the wave) - its timing with the Lappin injury was unfortunate in retrospect but not at the time of its instigation.

Sadly, we're unlikely to convince the more sanctimonious TS absentees that it was entirely w/o malice.

The real problem is that TV viewers (like myself) saw the wave after the game was interrupted by the injury. Ch 9 didn't show it when it started, but when Lappin was waiting for the stretcher. This is another proof how media can influence people's opinion by changing the context in which certain events can happen.

It's not about being sanctimonious or suggesting it had malice - I've never seen that sort of behaviour when a player has a major injury and it doesn't appear too good.

The mexican wave was awesome - went round atleast 4 times. What about before the match when the group of soldiers were doing things one after the other? Was that televised?
