The red sash or red vertical stripes which we wore in 96 against the D's at the G.

On the Grand Final and other finals, the current home strip should be worn at all times in finals games (except if we clash bit that is not likely), as we are now the Sydney Swans and that is where our future lies.

For away games in Melbourne I strongly support the use of the Red V. This would give the club a nice little extra earner (from sales and maybe more memberships) and significantly recongise the clubs heritage.

        Sure.

I was merely pointing that adopting it as the clash trip doesn't have to be interpreted as a dilution of the club's 'Sydney' identity.

The "Sydney" identity is strong enough now to withstand some dilution (IMHO). We are through that phase now, as evidenced by the polls that show the strong identification of the Swans with Sydney even with those not yet actually converted to the game.

I understand your point though Charlie, just feel that very few folk regard the wearing of the V here in the early years as significant (to Sydney folk anyway). Its earlier history is the significant aspect.

Along the same lines it would be good to see Brisbane wearing a Fitzroy strip regularly at Melbourne games (but the Bears should be relegated to a footnote in history)

I think using the V as an alternative strip for clashes is unessecary as we dont really clash with any other teams. However as a victorian based supporter would love to see the strip used in all melbourne games except the GF. I thought the jumper and the socks looked great on the weekend (as did brisbanes old fitzroy jumper).

It is seeing as how we have committed - with the rest of the league bar one club - to have an alternative strip for next year.

The same jersey worn the week before (no washing allowed to give it that vintage look).

I understand this - but I recall some opposition to the strip in the past (including me before I saw it on the field for the first time and realised just how good it looks)... on account of it's assumed 'backwards-step' connotations.

No, please, not those awful candy striped socks. Sure, I agree, wear the old guernsey for away games but please stick to the all red socks.

Perhaps Bris/Syd clashes should always use the old strips? After all, even when South was at its nadir they could still usually beat Fitzroy.

I couldn't give a stuff about the "heritage" aspect. But the overall white jumper just looks so much better. If they turn the V into the Opera House like on the current jumper it would look great.

This jumper was worn by South in the first 6 years of VFL competition
