The Sydney Swans vs. Kangaroo game at the SCG will honour the memory of Club trainer Wally Jackson who sadly passed away at the corresponding game last season. The Sydney Swans and The Heart Foundation have joined forces to raise awareness and funds for the 'Wally Jackson Research Fund'. People are urged to support the cause by purchasing a $2 wristband on game day which reads ?Feel the Beat?, or by donating money via the Optus SMS as promoted on the day.
Along these lines after the game yesterday I was walking near Central station when I noticed a man lying on the footpath near the lights. It was then that I noticed that the man was being cared for by two people coming back from the Swans game (he was wearing the members cap) who called the ambulance and gave the man's details whilst talking to the ambulance and asking the man questions. He was having chest pains.
I also stopped to see what I might do and offered my bag as a pillow to support his head. Whilst talking to the young couple Barney and Hayley, I discovered that people were walking passed and only they stopped and helped.
Later, after the ambos had arrived and the man was in good hands, we all walked off in the same direction and I learned that Barney worked for Lion Nathan and Hayley for Austereo and that they had been Swans members for two years now, after knocking back freebies from their work previously and deciding to "do the right thing."
Nice to see that Swans supporters are nice people and care for their fellow man, when others in Sydney won't- even the younger ones! Good on you guys!
