Our best possible scenario (though not bloody likely) is that:

We win both games (and by large margins)
Saints lose to either Freo (Subi) or Brisbane (Dome)
Crows lose to both Pies (AAMI) and WC (Subi) by signficant margins.

If these happen and the margins are enough then we CAN get to second.

The least likely part of the above scenario is the Pies winning (especially as they might be tanking) but you never know. Anyway, just in case, I will be yelling "Go Pies" this weekend.

Ideally we need West Coast to knock out St Kilda in the preliminary final, as I'd back us to beat the Eagles at the MCG.

St Kilda need to be avoided at all costs.

Whilst i agree the Saints are probably the team to avoid, i would only say this applies to playing them in Melbourne. Thats why i hope they have to make a trip to Subiaco before the Grand Final, as beating the Eagles there will be a true test. IF they make the grand final, with the home ground, they will be hard to beat, where as the eagles and the crows wont have any advantage there.
But i think the Swans can win in the first week of the finals, in which case, to make the grand final, they will be playing either StKilda or the Crows at home, where they are more than capable of winning.

If, and it's a very big "if" the Swans play against the Saints they way they did against the Eagles, then one team should hold no more fear than the other. At their home grounds, I'd put the odds for us as just below 50% for each. But the Swans have finals experience and great team belief right now so could lift to overcome that.

If we (and the players) start thinking "as long as we avoid x" then we're in trouble. You win the premiership by beating the best. We've shown we can - we have yet to find out if we will.

I don't quite understand the St Kilda phobia around here. A one man team if ever I saw one. Just put LRT on him!

Did you see that LRT has his own thread over at BigFooty for most improved player? Someone suggested what Roos has achieved with LRT is the equivalent of his grandad winning the Coleman.

                  Me neither.

On exposed form this year, both Adelaide and West Coast have been more consistently impressive. Both have more tactically astute coaches. Both have home ground advantages more significant than the Saints.

If we think our boys are good enough to win the flag this year, they are going to have to win (probably) 3 games against these 3 teams (not necessarily one against each).

We have as much reason to fear the other two as we do the Saints, and as much reason to feel confident of our chances against the Saints as against the other two.

They are one of those teams that just seem to get the better of us. Not unlike we are to Brisbane.

I think its just an admission that when it comes to playing big forward lines we struggle.

I have no doubt our midfield can handle theirs but Reiwoldt, Gherig, Hamill and whoever else they throw down there will still be a handful.

On the flip side they will hopefully be saying the same about Micky, Baz, ROK, Davis and Goodes.

And Darren and Jason - they are now down a ruckman.

And Schaubs - if there was a forward designed for Schaubs it's Gherig.

I'm putting all my energies into Freo getting across the line against the Saints on Friday. I hadn't considered that 1st playing 4th might be us playing the Crows at AAMI and 3rd place could win us Subiaco!
Anything but another $400+ flight to Perth!

But you all know only too well that if we had to play in Perth, I'd be here like a shot to support the team.

But please can we be 3rd! Or Adelaide make it to 1st!

Some may call this a theory.

We should have won because respective form at the time suggested that we would. Having won the previous three, and St Kilda having lost their previous three we were favoured going into this match. They were being labelled as under-achievers by the media which tends to fire a side up, and we decided to turn in a shocker. Besides, we are only better looking than them because Gehrig lost his mullet. We'll drop a rung on the eye candy standings if he ever decides to grow it again you realise.
