    Roos game positives and negatives

Some people may be horrified, but I thought it easier to roll them both up together.

Positives: The first half was such a stunningly complete team performance that, for the first time, I'd describe us as a good chance to make the GF. As my lovely partner said, "It looks like there's only one team out there." LRT. Nick Davis' sharpshooting. Barry Hall's beautiful 'don't argue' to Makepeace in the final quarter. Jude Bolton and Bucky just never stopped, running themselves into the ground all day. Vogels is a surprisingly mobile and hardworking big guy. The massacre of the Roos' tall forwards-- what tall forwards? Thompson and Rocca didn't amount to one decent player between them. Dempster is getting on the Keneally bandwagon and taking a few bolts out of defence himself.

Negatives: 2nd half really reminded us of what we know: if we kick sideways to static targets when coming out of defence (rather than going for a bolt and taking a chance), don't deliver crisply and miss our chances in front of the sticks, we become a mediocre team. Jason Ball-- we cannot afford to lose this guy. That's about it. Oh, and the fact that we ever traded Shannon Grant.

        Positives:
        Dempster playing superbly on Wells.
LRT again. The way he outthought Colbert on the O'Reilly wing was sensational.
The efficiency and skills of the team in the 1st quarter. It was fantastic to watch.
Nicky D kicking a bag will surely do his confidence a world of good.

        Negatives:
        Hope Ball is okay.
        Hope ROK isn't suspended.

The highs and lows of our game were summed in (to some extent) in the two halves of football.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."

+ive: Blowing away a team sitting 5th on the ladder (in the first quarter). Free flowing movement from half back. Forwards running riot.

-ive: Final margin same as first quarter margin. Sydney were matched well after half time by the roos.
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

While it is true we were well matched by the Roos after half time I think Roosy sent them out in the second to play safe football that would wrap up the win and make sure of the Top 4 spot without putting key players at too much risk. We did that and came away with at worst one week injuries if we decide to rest them.

As much as watching the second half pissed me off, I wouldn't read all that much into it, other than Roosy most likely couldn't be bothered trying to out coach North and wiping them off the park in the manner he did a week ago against Brisbane.

We definitely slowed the tempo down in the last quarter. I'm not so sure whether that was the game plan in the third quarter though.

This was a well thought out victory and wonderfully controlled without to much risk to result or personell in the second half.
Remember, it is the win that counts and not the margin.
Well done boys, another Professional demolition of one of our major competitors.

Dempster. He will be good. Strong bodied type and can run. Add that superior physical presence we miss sometime in the midfield. Great move by Roos to put him there. Certainly it creates uneaseness in opposition's minds where there is a physically imposing body close by.

Interestingly Davis played in the midfield in the first half but didn't in the second.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                        I'll play.

                        Positives:
-Dempster completely shutting down Wells. He did it in Canberra earlier in the year and didn't miss a beat today. Superb
                        - LRT 3 rapid fire 1% efforts in the first quarter. First the spoil, second ahh the spoil and thirdly the coming over the top of a Roos player to get the holding the ball rule. Man he has some ticker.
                        - Nicky D back in super form

                        Negatives:
                        - Injuries to Bally and Leo. Both corks so hopefully we can get them back up in a jiffy.
                        - Willo's disposal is still average but i'm sure it will pick up.
                        - ROK's report, i know there wasn't much in it but with the tribunal you have no idea what the heck they will do.

But when we played the Roos in Round 2 Dempster was yet to have played his first senior AFL match. I think you mean Luke Ablett for early in the year.
