Do you REALLY think we can make it to the GF???

My mum called me from Kuala Lumpur today to ask if she should book a ticket to the annual KL Grand Final Function . She's not really an AFL fan, and pretty much only follows the Swans because of me. She said she only wanted to go if the Swans were playing and asked if I thought it was worth paying the money for a ticket.

Well, the pressure was on. When asked directly "Will the Swans make the GF?" I just didn't know what to do. For the last few weeks I've been doing to usual Roosy-esque dodging of questions: "we can if we play well and have a bit of luck", "judging on our current form you'd have to give us a chance", "Well, I'm hoping so, but we'll see how we play next week first".

So, yes or no? If you had to make some kind of decision regarding that last weekend in September, what would you do? Should my Mum book her ticket to the Malaysian Warriors annual Grand Final Luncheon, or should she save her ringgit for some other MANZA event?

It is not fair to put this, your problem on us, some of the longest suffering and most dissapointed of all AFL fans, ever.

Wait till the end of the first week of the finals.

If we win that game tell your mum to buy a ticket other wise, check that bet.

you can tell your mum the swans will make the gf. stkilda have too many injuries, west coast can't travel, and i can't see adelaide winning the gf. the swans are the in-form team of the comp and i think we should make it.

Whether or not that is true, it will have little bearing on their chances of making the GF, and therefore on the Swans' chances of making the GF.

                Hi Eirinn,

Tell your mum to go anyway. How often do you get to see a GF in Malaysia? She might find it fun even if the Swannies don't make it.

Me, I'll be somewhere in Germany, so desperately hoping the Swannies make it, but I'll go watch the GF regardless.

But if she's dead-set on only going if the Swans make it, I'd agree with the other poster who said yes, if we win in the first week of the finals.

All types are on our bandwagon at the moment. The articulate, the studious, the learned and the Ox.

Yes the Ox predicted the Grand Finalists would be Crows & Sydney.

I still think the teams with home finals in the first week of the finals have the best chance of making the granny. However despite West Coast's form last week, it would be harder to knock them over and thus gain the direct passage to the prelim final.

                          Reading the signs:

                          * Last year the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918. 1918 was the year of the Swans' second premiership. The Red Sox play in red and white.

                          * Last year the Swans had their biggest winning margin in a final since 1934.

                          * In 1933 the Swans started off the season slowly, and then won the last 11 games of the season.

The Swans form has also been impressive.

I would book the tickets regardless. The Swans are 4.50 for the flag, which implies the bookies believe we are about a 2-1 chance to make the Grand Final.

At the moment I'm tipping a Swans v St Kilda Grand Final (and touching wood).

Should not get ahead of ourselves that far, people. One week at a time. A week is awfully long in football and we should not look much further ahead.
