4pm ABC news quotes Roos as saying Stewie has until the end of the season to decide.

From an article on the Swans website:

Maxfield, who has played 195 games for the Swans since joining the club in 1996 and 95 for Richmond before then, will have discussions with the club at the end of the season about whether to embark on a 17th season of senior football.

Those 5 games might seem like a big hurdle from here but it's a long time out of footy once you quit.

For tha statisticians his season average stats for possesions are
            2005 10.4
            2004 14.2
            2003 16.3
            2002 15.9
            2001 18.3
My head says it's over and my heart is disappointed he didn't get a farewell match, but even that romantic side of me thinks it's time for him to retire.
Yeah totally agree. Stewie's been great but he's passed it. Simple as that.

No I wasnt being nasty and I said as much in my post. I have great respect for Stewie although I do think that he should have retired at the end of last season. If he decides now to retire, this will have been an awful way for him to finish his career.

You don't happen to be a greyhound trainer do you? The only thing missing is the bullet behind the ear. Stewies contribution to the "hard at it" ethos of the contemporary swans has been enormous. He set the benchmark and missing out is a tragedy. If there are any medals going the swans way at the end of the year he deserves one and more

                    From the AFL site:

"He put himself through a fair bit of pain to get back, so I think in some ways at least he was able to purge himself of the footy this year," he said.

"He has gone through a painstaking rehab and rest and operations and all those sorts of things and probably a fair bit of pain.

"I haven't asked him how much pain, but you only had to look at the way he was walking after last week's game to see that the knee was very, very sore and obviously things weren't going as well as he hoped."

Maxfield - who sat in the coaches' box whilst on the sidelines and coached the Swans Reserves for two games - will travel with the side throughout their finals campaign as part of the coaching staff.

Roos will give the 289-game veteran until the end of the season to decide his playing future.
