Can somebody please tell me the name off the swans player about 5 years ago, who broke his leg and then tried to sue the AFL. I think he was off aboriginal descent!!!

Yep. Ron Barassi testified that Lawson was one of the quickest players he had ever seen.
I think of him as the first of a long run of potential guns that barely got a start to their careers because of injury:
Lawson, Chapman, Fitzgerald, James, Doyle, Fixter
...even Warfe and Seymour were better prospects than we remember them.
I'm sure most teams could compile a similar list, but it's still very frustrating.

Something like a crushed Adam's Apple?
Simon Madden nailed him (Gareth John), he was only 21 I think, he spent an awfull long time waiting around in emergency and then during his convalescence he started thinking, he developed philosophy and had to be delisted.
North picked him up, but he was unable to recover.
PS For those who may never have seen Jamie Lawson in action, think Aaron Davey but faster (though not as skilled).

Simmon Maden nailing him! Strewth I'm suprised that he even survived. I thought he looked almost the exact same as Robbie Armhat. <---- I think that's how you spell his name.

Well, or course.

I had wondered why Nick Holland had never managed to get his act together. Then I learned he was working on a law degree.

He did resemble Davey a lot in build and pace, but was faster. He used to wear number 1 before Roos got it. He played for us in 1993 and 1994 (possibly earlier than 1993 as well), until a broken leg against Richmond in round 19, 1994 ended his career.
My former housemate liked him a lot for his pace, and he follows the Hawks. I remember my housemate asking later what happened to him.

Although not playing for the Swans Peter Jonas is a classic example of this, one of the best I watched play as a tacker.
I know him well as I wore his number on my black duffer coat as I followed my beloved Central Districts from game to game.
I always wondered how good Jona would have been in the VFL, his was a tragic story but I and many others still regard him as a true champion.

I think he was smaller than Davey, but as Ruckman said , damned quick and not overly skilled, however he was just starting to show some real promise when he broke his leg IIRC.
Lawson was going to be anything. I recall, the week before he broke his leg, he played an absolute blinder against the crows. We managed to snare a rare win. His skills were pretty second-rate early on, but they were definitely improving.
