    Roos plays possum

There has been some discussion re: The slow recent second halves against teams there to be crushed like bugs and Baz tanking the Coleman.

Do not be tricked, these are not signs of mental weakness, lack of killer instinct or players putting the team ahead of individual goals. You have been taken in by the genius of Paul Roos, and I suspect so has the opposition.

Q: What does Paul Roos love more than his thigh pads, more than the word "probably", more than his top secret fishing equipment company? A: Being the underdog.

He has carefully crafted the last month of our season not just to win games but to win in such a way that the focus of the media (and therefore the opposition) has been taken off the Swans and directed towards St Kilda (hey, they really beat Brisbane) and Adelaide (top of the ladder, Woo Hoo!). He can now claim underdog status in week one and attempt to sneak under the radar.

Ah the Theory in search of a Conspiracy!

Well I'm not sure he is that concerned about what the opposition really think. Personally I think he has been more inwardly focussed, with all of the lessons and coaching designed to have the players at peak levels mentally and physically for the last month of action.

The last time we had a really big year in terms of percentage (in my memory) was 1987.

Sigh. That was an awesome run of huge wins at the SCG. The Swanettes were exhausted by it. We were brought crashing back to Earth afterwards though.

I was at those three games in 1987 when we kicked 30 goals three weeks in a row.

What a magical time it was.

Likewise. I've never clapped at the football so much in my life. I remember that at the end of the Richmond game most people were dissappointed that they didnt score more than 200 pts again.

I thought it was about the Roos playing the Possums during the post-season. That of course took me to Google where I learned that the first AFL football was a stuffed possum (a very stuffed possum by the end, I'd guess) in the 1840s.

Hmm, I wonder if I can get a publisher interested in "The Adventures of Sherrin the Possum"?

I was there as well for all three, but by the end of the third game listening to that tune "Show it to em Sydney...." they played after every goal grrr I still wake my wife at night singing it in my sleep.

I agree it doesnt hurt to have a little extra in reserve that the opposition hasnt seen.
Although St Kilda know they can play 4 quarters flat out; the Swans are hoping they can do it when it's needed.

Didn't Guederian say something about there being a difference between being "Battle Ready" and 'Battle Hardened"?

Anyone notice how the Saints have been nurturing a rather cruel "Killer Instinct" since they got Harvey and Hammil back

Yet we fell in a heap by the end. Too much over-confidence, peaked too early. [/B]
The 236 points against Essendon in Round 17 - where does that figure in the Swans records for highest score and the AFL records?
