    Wisbey on Schneider

As some of you might be aware, there's a regular poster on Hotrod's Collingwood board who watches a lot of underage footy and provides detailed profiles of potential draftees during the period leading up to the draft. In response to a question from another poster there, he has just reposted his profile on Schneider written before the 2001 draft. It makes for interesting reading, particularly for anyone who (like me) has been wondering how he lasted to no 60 in the draft.

If you'd like to have a read, this is the website address. You need to scroll down to find the right thread - I'm not sure how to post direct links to individual threads on that board.

thanks lizz, I don't know anything about this guy but he does seem to know his stuff and from what I've seen and what this guy wrote(typed) he is spot on. The kid is a real find and at number 60 in the draft proves that there is some worth in late picks.

No worries about getting to the right part quickly - just go to the page and then press "Control" and "F" (at the same time).
This brings up the "find" function, put in "Schneider" then press "fin next" and it will take you to the next use of that word.

This works on pretty much any kind of windows document, btw.

In light of Adam's brain explosion bounce the other night I had to laugh that two years ago Wisbey said this!

"- Quite quick. Enjoys a dash, usually effectively (but occasionally loses the ball when bouncing)."

No word from anyone yet how he was still around at no 60, though.

Maybe he had made it plain that he wanted to go to Sydney (being from NSW) so the other clubs didn't bother with him and Sydney were relaxed that he would be there late?

Morrish votes in 6 out of 11 games when hampered by injuries, hard ball gets a specialty, "Buckley like" on the long pass, attitude, fierce, determined, confident, not skinny and averaging 30 possessions a game.

            Pick 60??? Weird.

Possibly his size counted against him - the same factor almost certainly allowed Rodan to slip through to the early 30s and cost Dinnell a spot this year. Those two are quite a bit smaller though, even than Schneider.

Last year's draft was claimed to be one of the deepest ever, which was probably also a factor. There was an abundance of talented midfielders to pick from. Also, him being from NSW maybe meant he didn't have quite the same level of exposure as some of his Victorian cousins.

Still, it certainly looks as if the Swans found themselves a bargain.

Interestingly, after he was drafted, I read a comment that he was a player the Swans had had their eye on all along and were very keen to get. It didn't sound as if he was an afterthought because he happened to still be around at no 60. If accurate, this suggests the Swans were confident that other clubs weren't showing that much of an interest in him.
