Interested in being interviewed about the Swans?

Dear Red and White Online members,

My name is Nick Melchior. I am the research assistant for a book that is being written by Dr John Cash and Professor Joy Damousi, both of the University of Melbourne. We're wondering if any of you would be interested in being interviewed.

John and Joy are keen to talk to people about:

* The place of football in people's lives - how it brings family relationships, friends and work mates together (or apart!);

* How they came to be passionate about football - at what point in their lives did it become significant - in childhood? adulthood? etc;

* Why they support that particular club and where does the loyalty and commitment to follow them every year through losses as well as wins come from;

* Which moments would they identify as melancholic/tragic in the club's history and how they remember that event and why it continues to be important and occupy an important status within the club's history.

The interview can be as long or as short as people want - but most commonly it is about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half.

At this point, due to funding and time commitments, we are only looking for Melbourne based supporters, and all interviews are to be done in person. However, if you don't meet these criteria and are still interested in being involved, please do get in touch. John and Joy are considering doing an online questionnaire, and may also make trips to other state capitals.

Only looking for Melbourne based supporters of a Sydney AFL club?

Oh well I suppose the book should have been writen back in the days of the old VFL then, cos it will not have much relevance to most Swans fans then, as the clear majority of them are now in Sydney.

My interpretation is that the book is not about Swans fans, it is about football fans, of whom Swans fans are obviously just one faction.

Don't really understand why the prima facie limit to Melbourne is a big deal, especially as it has been made clear that anyone outside Melbourne who really wants to participate probably can.

A lot of us expect to be down in Melbourne in a few weeks time anyway!

That's right Liz, I've posted similar threads ona variety of football fan boards.

We're doing what we can to be able to get as wide a range of voices involved, but finances and time constraints do result in some limitations.

There used to be a thread on here that was about 'why you follow the swans'. That would've been perfect. Although it wasn't through interview it could have given you some sort of indication on the widespread variety of reasons.
