We win that trophy, hands down. Reading RWO today is a disgrace. The umpiring was poor but so was much of the play. Schneider's miss in qtr 1 was equally as bad as the crazy free. The way we have carried on today makes me want to "rip up" my membership. Biggest sooks in the League, bar none (except maybe Riewoldt).

But, in reality we were always a long shot to win a final in Perth, and should count ourselves lucky it wasnt an elimination one. We could have easily won, got no significant injuries, so our form is still pretty awesome with 3 games left.
Theres a lot of footy left in this season.
FWIW, most fans of most sides would have had a sook. It shows passion.Comment

Do you think that there is any club in the AFL whose supporters would accept the rubbish we saw from the umpires last night with good grace.. I dont think so.
And another thing, I would never threaten to abandon the club because I dont agree with what other supporters say or think. We are all entitled to our opinion. I must admit after last night I felt as shattered as Ive ever felt, but reading that so many of us were feeling the same I felt a little better and now its just BRING ON GEELONG..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Nope I don't think so. There has been a big outrage from non-Swans supporters as well, the likes of which I haven't seen before.
Besides, we're cursed not to win any trophy, even imaginary ones.Comment

Certainly costly misses also contributed to the loss against the Weagles, however the outcry over the Umps (Plus JG admitting they got it wrong when Leo was pinged), both here and on other forums, the complaints are justifiable and not a case of whinging because Sydney lost.Premiers 09,18,33,05

We should have won. There is no reason that we could not get to the ball first, moved it from the tapout to the goal square without opposition touching any of our players. Even if the umpires would award the opposition a free kick everytime we touched their players and even if there would be no penalty when the opposition headhunted our players, we should have won because we got our chances.
So stop whiging, people.

In games gone by I hae been known to have a bit of a go at the umpires but most of the time I will usually end up saying it didn't have any impact on the result, as we played like ****.
However last night was different, the umpires cost us the game, and amazingly on Big Footy it isn't the swans fans having a go at the umpiring it's others

it is becoming increasingly apparent that many of the loudest voices on this board have neither playing experience let alone umpiring experience. they are both extremely hard things to do. it is one thing to scrutinise and draw attention to errors where they have been made. get upset and share your grief with others by all means - it's a great catharsis for life's greater frustrations. it is another thing altogether to make accusations and claw and tear at the reputations of those that are doing their best in the heat of the moment with the limited viewpoint they have; i doubt few of the tub-thumpers on this board have the credentials to do so.
we was robbed. not by design or maliciousness but by faults of many men. in addition to mclaren et al our team completely failed to take the opportunity when it was begging them to. leo barry created the situation with stenglein with a bit of close-checking gamesmanship and stenglein made the most of his chance. goodes was tackled after taking on wirrapunda when he was on fire: he was already on his way to the ground before he was legged. he may have recovered but i doubt he would have given a clean disposal from there such was his trajectory. tadgh missed a sitter and lrt's cross-goal kick was truly awful. there are many more examples of our own flaws and errors costing us those precious four points. paul williams (the aging champ) anyone? schneider for the weekly pelting of rotten fruit?
if you don't like the standard of umpiring in this game, pick up a whistle and give it a go. you might just find it's harder than you think. then again, you might end up adjudicating a grand final and raise the bar a notch or two (i agree it could be done and would be a good thing). in the meantime, perhaps you can (politely) lobby the afl to set up umpiring clinics, scholarships and regular employment for umpiring in this country. that might achieve something worthwhile.
i choose to accept that on friday night we suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and hope that next week we find that it is nobler in the mind to take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them.Last edited by timthefish; 4 September 2005, 01:10 AM.then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i knowComment

My verdict on all this.
Yes, crucial decisions DID go against us in the last quarter.
BUT we seem to be conveniently avoiding several key facts in all this.
A) During the last quarter both Williams Bolton and Ablett were either playing injured of of the field getting treatment, with Tadgh copping a nasty knock as well that reduced his capacity to run and rebound out of half back. Hence we lost all sort of drive and run from our onballers at a time we could ill-afford to.
B) Regardless of the legitimacy of the Stenglein-Leo Barry incident, what the hell was Leo actually trying to do by crashing into the man on the mark? Dumb knuckled-headed football when WE had the ball at half back. In my view completely inexcusable!
C) LRT's terrible clearing kick that landed straight in the arms of an Eagle, who duly goaled. A poor (and sadly a very basic) skill error at a time we could ill-afford to be making them.
D) The terrible football Adam Goodes played all night, legged or not legged.
E) The Schneider miss from 20 metres out.
F) The easy shots the Eagles missed throughout the game.
Yes, we really DId still deserve to win. But when we are more desperate to go in and get the hard footy then continue to fumble basic overhead and chest marks like Barry Hall did last night. And when we continually are unable to hit a target with kicks better than the obligatory half-volleys, we will never do anything in the finals.
Your effort on Friday Swans could not be faulted. BUT, there are still very basuc things that you are getting wrong and have been doing all season.
PLEASE HIT YOUR TARGETS hen you are aiming at a player leading upfield!
